CF card questions
Hey all...
A few quick questions regarding CF cards:
1) Does the X51V support type I cards or ony type II??
2) anyone ever try el cheapo cards from ebay? if so, which ones work/don't work?
3) How about a seagate st1.2 microdrive. Any experiences with them?

Basically I am looking for the cheapest 8gb CF card I can find that works reliably.

Thanks for the info!!

1) Both
2) I'd avoid Ebay cards because of all the fakes out there.
3) Sorry, don't know.

Pertaining to Question 2:

8GB cards are a toughie. I can't seem to find the best bang-for-buck card.

I would trust Sandisk and Kingston for any kind of flash memory.

because of the large number of fake memory cards on Ebay, I wouldn't even consider buying one from there.

They may look like the real deal... but you'll lose your data, and then realise you can't get your money back.

Only buy flash from reputable retailers.... not ebay

Naste, it's Type I or Type II

"The only difference between the two types is that the Type II devices are 5 mm thick while Type I devices are 3.3 mm thick."

Axims accept both Type I and Type II

Thanks for the prompt reply.
The only reason as asking as seen somewhere else that one of them is a bit loose. (Type 1most probably). My axim here on wednesday so want to add to the goodies.
Would allow dust to get in?
Cheers.

Dust gets everywhere
Just remember to clean it out once a while.

In my experience, CF flash memory cards are type 1, while microdrives and CF accessories (e.g., CF GPS receiver) tend to be type 2. Be aware if you purchase a CF memory card that is type 2; it might be a microdrive which may not be compatible with your device. And yes, you will collect dust with type 1 cards. That's one of the many reasons I use a case.

No, that's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that there are compatibility issues, meaning that some work, others don't, depending on which device you have. However, a search yielded this result:

Storage Card Compatibility List

There are also lots of threads that report success with the Seagate 8GB card and the X51; however, I'm not sure if people are talking about the exact same model you are asking about.
