I went to Walmart a couple of years ago and went to the sewing section. They have the clear (sticky) vinyl tablecloth covers in various thicknesses. I bought a yard of the second thinnest for around $3 and cut a piece out to size, put it on and it still looks pretty good today, I bought the yard so I could cut out more, but they last a very long time. They are pretty clear, you just have to put it on smooth with a few drops of soapy water.

I have been using the same process since getting my first Palm Pilot which I have described on this site numerous times. Its a great cover.

I do not use a screen protector. With the Walmart idea, how does it respond to stylus taps? I do *edit* not *edit*want to sacrifice accuracy for protection.

I have heard of the vinyl tablecloth cover method, but never actually seen the stuff. I must be looking in the wrong section of the store, but I think I will try that next when I run out of projector sheets. Only thing I can think of is it might drag a little bit. Soapy water reminds me of people diy with window tint technique.

Response is excellent. I got my (table cloth vinyl covering material) from a fabric store. They had 3 thicknesses which after playing with them the middle thickness worked the best for me. I ended up getting a square yard of the material for under a $1, thats been seven years ago! I still have over half left. I have made a cardboard template for each PDA I have had to match its screen size. I make a new screen cover about every six months mostly just to have a new one not because its scuffed up much. When the screen cover gets to have a little drag I put a very very small amount of pledge onto a rag and just rub it over the outside of my screen cover (while still on my unit) and its slick as goose grease. Though you can clean the outside of this material I choose not to simply because its so inexpensive to just make a new one. I use my Pocket PC on the fly for most data entry then sync it to my PC so I am a heavy screen user. :approve:

The response on mine is also very good. You just need to make sure you get the correct thickness.

At Walmart they had about 5 thicknesses, I bought the second from the thinnest. That was a couple of years ago. You can open the role a little and overlay some on your screen to try it.

What an excellent idea!

I just don't like the idea of voiding my warranty tho. Screen protectors are a little too expensive for thin slices of plastique >:[

I saw IPhone screen protectors that went for 3 for 15.00 dollars!

Maybe apple peeps should read this thread.

I do not see how you would void your warranty by using a 'screen protector'. Upgrading your ROM to something above WM5 will do that but for me both of my X51Vs have long ago exceeded their warranty cycle. :approve:
