How difficult is it to replace your screen (really)

My screen has shown extensive wear on the side from stylus use. I've seen the tutorial about replacing the screen (excellent and he did it in 30 minutes). Any amateurs out there that have done this and their impressions. Should I let it go until the I physically cannot use the axim or go ahead and replace the screen as shown in the tutorial.:rolling:

I went to my local Dell refurbished stuff discount store and got a replacement screen. The tech did it right in front of me in about 20 minutes. I think after watching him do it, that I could do it myself if it happens again. The scariest part for me was watching him pull the cover off after the first four screws were out. I thought the case was going to crack, but it popped off ok, and once he got the tiny screws out, it was gently remove the ribbons from the board and boom done. The only struggle from that point was threading the ribbons back in place and inserting them into the board. The rest was easy. Oh, and one last thing, be sure to remove the protective film from the new screen. We didn't and it was very tough to get the film off after. :-(

My question would be why not use a screen protector in the first place to prevent such wear? I've had a screen protector on my screen from the moment I took my x51v out of the box new. The wear is on the protector, but the screen is like new underneath.

Well over a year ago my X51v crashed and I bought a replacement screen from China on eBay.

The installation was somewhat tricky and finally it turned out that the ax electronic was defect.

I then bought a used X50v in mint condition for just a little more than the cost of the replacement screen + shipping.

Remember to use protection :o

The protector I was referring to was the one with writing all over it, from the manufacturer. I felt a bit silly when it was neatly tucked under the edges and it took awhile to carefully pull it out.
