4GB is generally the safe size for x50.
Any larger, you would have to use the SDHC driver.

First, I've tried sticking in the 4 GB SD card (from SanDisk) & the Axim doesn't recognize it. The driver won't work on my X50, unless I upgrade to WM5, and that's something I've been avoiding.
Partially because I'm fairly certain that my TrendNET CompactFlash Ethernet Adapter won't work for WM5. I say this, because back when TrendNET actually still had a supported the device, they said as much.
So I don't think I can necessarily make my X50(mid, if that matters) work with the newer SD cards. However, because my camera can't support the 4GB either, but apparently can support a 2GB card, I was wondering if the same might be true of the Axim.
No software changes, or anything like that. Just a simple question of support. (However, if you know of a fix for the 4GB card, that doesn't involve upgrading to WM5, I'd certainly listen.)
The problem you have is your cards are SDHC. Your Axim can use up to a 4 gig card as long as it's an SD card, NOT an SDHC card. Your camera probably has a similar issue. I use a 4 gig card in my X50 and X51. I haven't tried these, but reviews say they are not HC cards. At $6.99 for a 4 gig card might be worth a try? If you are using SDHC, then you'll need the SDHC hack, as explained in post 2. Another option is to get an SD(HC) to CF adapter. I have one, and it reads SDHC cards just fine using the CF slot.

Gigi, I am curious, where did you get your adapter?

Welcome to the site!
You need to provide a little more information about exactly what you did and what happened. Take a look at this thread for helpful instructions on getting it to work:
If your x50 has wm2003se (the factory os) then it can only use up to 4gb regular (non-hc) cards.
If your x50 was upgraded to wm5 it can use some sdhc cards with the driver.
If your x50 has a hacked wm6 rom on it, it can use any sdhc cards.
Might I remind you that the WM6 rom for X50 is not ready yet. Even then, you need a certain dll file to support sdhc cards (I will be sure to include it though).
