Worried Memory Card speed irrelevant for x50v?

Hi Folks, thanks for all the great info over the years.
I've read everything I can find on the issue of memory card speed and would like you to confirm my assumptions.
I have an x50v running WM2003SE
I have a 2gb SD card
I want a high capacity memory card (4-8gb) to store my MP3 collection and play on my AxPod (x50v)
I live in Australia where top brand memory cards are still pricey, although nothing like a few years ago. When I first got my Axim I paid $100 for a 1gb SD card!

SD card size limit is 2gb with WM2003SE?
CF card size is unlimited?
read speed is irrelevant when using the card in x50v? This is because the card reader only reads at 1 mb/sec.
Battery drain may be higher for cheaper cards? not a big deal because I have a spare battery

Once I load the MP3s on the card I won't be updating (write) very often. I don't care how long it takes for the initial write.
If I'm only reading the card on the Axim I may as well buy the slowest card I can find. Is this assumption correct?
I'm planning on getting a 4-8gb CF card. The only thing I don't like about them is they are hard to remove, but i won't be doing that very often so it's not a biggy.

Any answers, advise, suggestions welcome

Thanks

You seem to be 100% correct.

For practical purposes, memory card speed is irrelevant for use in the x50v. If you may want to use your card in another device (say a high-megapixel camera where write speed may matter), then it is something to consider.

With WM2003SE, there are some SD cards that allow 4GB, but most top out at 2 GB (be sure to NOT buy the SDHC cards, just straight SD). Any sized CF card should work fine.

There is (or used to be) a sticky'd thread about memory card compatibility with the Axims, but I can't find it right now. There will be no practical differences concerning battery drain among cards. One piece of advice that was frequently offered was not to but very inexpensive cards off of E-Bay, as many were countefeit and did not work as expected, or at all.

There was also an interesting thread about how different formatting options (FAT v FAT32, cluster size, etc.) affected read and write speeds. However, for the purposes of storing and playing back music, it should not matter to you much.

Thank you Kenster. I have a 2 gig card and read somewhere that there was a 4 gig non-HC card. I found one off the net and am using it right now. It's a Transcend X133 card. I have around 1.9 mb of stuff on it and it's still working. I got it from Here.

I'm looking for an Axim 51v right now just for the CF slot! I'm on a budget so it's been slow however.
