OK, so you've asked, will Lion Battery offer extended batteries for the X50? The answer is .... "YES".
Mugen Power is developing the battery and our initial planned date is the end of November. I know that this is still a long way away, but it takes time to develop.
Don't start asking questions about size, capacity, mAh, etc. We don't know. If you have thoughts or recommendations, then visit the Lion Battery forum and post your comments there.

I know this is an X50 thread but...is the Mugen extended battery for the X30 flush fit or does it stick out any like the Dell extended battery?
OK, this isn't exactly about the Mugen battery, but it might have Mugen implications down the road...
Has anyone checked out the pictures Dell has posted for X50 accessories? It could be a mistake and they put the same picture up for the 1100 and 2200, or maybe they used the same one because they have the same form factor? That may be wishful thinking, but it would really be cool!
Regardless though I'll still be getting the Mugen when it's available!
^^^ Agreed. The specs clearly show a size difference in thickness... basically twice the thickness.
I hope it doesn't pertrude like the extended batteries for the X3/30! I want to be able to use the extended battery with a RhinoSkin. Also, the hump-back look is so last year.

how has mugen batteries been in the past? what type of prices did they have compared to dell?

Mugen has been GREAT! I have both of their batteries for the X5, a 2000 that is basically the same form factor as the standard 1400 Dell and the whopping 3800(!) extended battery. I tried to run that one down (per Mugen's instructions) when I first got it and it took forever! Price-wise the standard and extended for Mugen both came in lower in price than the Dell counterpart, so it was a win-win.
I plan to get a Mugen "standard" (which I'm hoping for 1800) AND extended once they are available for the X50.
As far as the size (back to regular Dell batteries) for the extended battery, there has been word in other posts that people have been told the extended battery will come with it's own cover (whether attached to the battery or not is unclear) since it will stick out some from the back of the X50. How much remains to be seen.
Just to get this straight in my head, Lion is the name of the company, and Mugen is the name of the battery that they sell, right?
Let me help you. Lion Battery is my company and we are the distributor of batteries manufactured by Mugen Power. We ship worldwide and sell on eBay (using the username mef38) and from our own web store (www.lionbattery.com). I hope that this helps.
the extended one will probably stick out, it has for the x5 and x30.. they usually make one with 200mAH more that is like a regular battery and a super powerful one that sticks out. I have the 3800mAH for the x5, its amazing how long it lasts

That did help, and thanks a lot. You can count on me buying one when I actually can afford getting an X50v.

True, the specs show about 2x the thickness, but if it's anything like the x30 demo unit they have in the kiosk at the mall, there is a good 1mm difference between the battery and the outermost surface or the battery cover itself. I presume that for extended batt. packs that extend outside the unit a bit, the cover is actually attached to the battery, so it shouldn't extend ('humpback') beyond the unit, by even as much as the thickness of the standard battery...I'd guess, no more than another 3 or 4 mm.
And as for the RhinoSkin case, I believe there is another post, which deals with cases...don't have a link handy, though.

Ok..wrong place..but since we are talking about size..and it DOES matter...which battery has the same thickness as the standard Dell battery for the X30 but has more staying power?
