No the battery extenders for the X30 will not work for the X50 because the connector is different. Dell says the connector on the bottom of the X50 was redesigned for additional features, most likely for the VGA out feature. So any accessories that connect to the bottom connector of the X30 will not fit the X50.

They are not all like that - have a look at the boxwave one HERE it has a female USB port on it - which you then buy the applicable sync cable to connect it to your device (which has a male USB connector and a connector for your device). This also has the advantage that you can use the cable to connect to a normal USB port for charging and syncing. BTW - psyche - welcome to the site

Thanks for keep me straight! So I need to clarify... Any battery extender that is made for the X30 and connects to it via the connector on the bottom of the Axim will not work on the X50. However, a battery extender that uses USB to connect to the Axim will work on both the X30 and the X50, assuming you also have the appropriate sync cable for the Axim you are using it on.

The paragraph below is just for clarification - although I think you have already understood. It doesn't "use USB to connect to the Axim" but allows different cables to be used with the battery extender by providing a connection from the extender which can be used with Sync cables from different Axim models (which in this case is a USB connector).

has anybody used one of these USB car chargers, or USB battery packs? do they allow you to charge while using the axim (like with a mains powered cradle) or can you only do one at a time (like a USB powered cradle)?

I made my battery extender for my old ipaq 3800 series and than used it for my axim x5. I now own the x50 and when i go to use the battery extender that has 4 brand new freshly charged 2300mah batteris in it, the x50 will light up orange and the main battery on the device will not go up. It doesnt seem to want to charge. Does anyone have any ideas what could be the problem? The battery pack is a radio shack case, a diode and of coarse the connector to plug into the device.

Is anyone having trouble with there battery extender on there x50? I went to plug in mine with brand new batteries and it doesnt seem to do anyting. The light on the axim turns orange but the battery keeps going down. Any clue what could be the problem? I have nimh 2300 mah batteries freshly charged putting out around 4.8 volts. I never had an issue with my x5 or my ipaq 3800 series.

I did one of the DIY ones back a couple years ago. It consists of a rat shack 4 battery case, plug and diode to prevent from the batter of the pocket pc charging the extended battery. I have never had any issues with it when i was using my ipaq 3800 and with my dell axim x5.

garretwp - just wondered if you ever got this sorted. I just constructed a DIY battery extender and have exactly the same problem.
1. The orange charging light comes on 2. the Axim won't power on whilst connected to the battery extender 3. the battery level does not go up even after the b.e. is plugged in for about an hour. any help appreciated...
