Hitachi Microdrive Advice Please
Could someone please advise me if these products will work w/ a 50v (attached the info below)? Any other advice or experience is welcome. Thanks for your help...great informative site.
"The 512MB, 1GB and 2GB Microdrives can be used in most digital cameras equipped with a CompactFlash Type II slot or a PC ATA Type II card slot with adapter. The 4GB Microdrives need a camera or device that is compatible with the FAT-32 file system to access its capacity beyond 2GB. For more information, click here for a list of compatible digital cameras from Hitachi."

As long as it is a retail-packaged Microdrive, you won't have problems.
If ordering from eBay or somewhere, beware that there are some Microdrives (generally 4GB drives) that have been pulled out of portable MP3 players. Some of these drives will also work fine, but after a while some manufacturers started "locking" the microdrives that were being installed into certain models of MP3 players. A "locked" drive cannot be used in a device like a camera or a PDA.

I have a 2GB Hitachi and it works just fine (from Fry's Outpost, it was cheap enough...)
The "drawbacks" I've found so far: - When walking quickly, my music would skip every now and then - it was fixed by increasing the buffer, though. - It takes a toll on the battery, but I can get a good 2 hours with the regular battery (give or take some) playing mp3s continuously (dimmed screen). - "Slow" data transfer. I've never owned an SD or CF card before (this is my first one) so I have no way to compare it to something else. Even though it's "maximum" transfer rate is 48X (both the 2GB and 4GB models have the same speed), it feels a bit... slow. I used a card-reader (built into my computer) to transfer 2 .avi's (350MB total) and it took about between 5 and 6 minutes to transfer. I haven't tried through the craddle, though I've read that it's slower. So yeah, it's a bit slow. I was actually contemplating getting the 4GB model (because of the sheer size), But I'm not so sure about it because moving big files (like movies) will be a hassle. I might just go with a 2GB solid state CF card for speed and durability... I'll have to think about it in the morning when I'm more lucid *yawn*
