I've been using my iPaq 2215 for several months without a screen protector and only occasional cleaning. If I hold the 2215 very carefully at just the right angle and in just the right light, I can notice a couple of minor scratches. There's nothing I notice in the way of flaws under normal use. I'm not convinced that screen protectors are necessary with normal stylus pressure. However, heavy gaming with the stylus may be a different story.
YMMV,
Mick
Just put a screen protector if I were you. You wouldn't even notice the screen protector once installed. It would be better scratchless than scratched. It's the dust between the stylus and the screen that causes the scratches. :)
The short answer is: It's ok, as long as you don't mind scratches on it.
The longer answer is: Most people that want to take extra care of their PPC will get a screen protector. Normal wear with the stylus WILL scratch the screen: that's just a fact. Granted, that won't amount to very much damage. But every so often, you'll get a piece of dust or other crap under the tip and SCRREEEEEEEETCHHHH!!! - you could get a big honkin' scratch. Happened to me on my J548. I thought I was gonna throw up!
I'm especially careful with my stuff, so there's no doubt in my mind I'll be getting one. Plus, a REALLY good one only costs about $10 - $15. Seems like a no-brainer to me, but different strokes for different folks!!! :approve:
I probably should have mentioned that I'm so clumsy I generally did more damage trying to install various screen protectors than just doing without. Also, all the screen protectors I tried seemed to degrade the image quality at least a bit.

Have you guys ordered the Write Shield Screen protector for your upcoming X50?
I'm SOOOOO close to doing it for my X50v, but I prefer the Boxwave products. I probably will go ahead soon and buy one. Anyone wanna split a set of two?
sorry I'd rather have two for myself. are you getting the anti-glare or the regular. I'm not sure if I should get anti-glare because I'm going to use the Dell GPS with it
Starting with my X3i, I have taken the stance of anti-screen-protector. Up until my current PDA (X3i), I always used a screen protector. And keep in mind that I did not use cheapo protectors, I always used Brando or Boxwave. While both brands of screen protector were good, smooth, clear, etc.... they are still nothing compared to the appearance/feel of a protectorless screen.
Do I get scratches? Yes, but only very fine ones. With the PPC turned on, I can't see them at all. They are only visible when viewing them at an angle with the screen turned off.
I'm sure that after a couple years of use, that they might become more visible. But I don't keep a PDA for more than 1 or 2 years anyhow, before getting a newer model.
If you're looking to get YEARS of use out of your screen, it's probably best to get a protector. Otherwise, the minute scratches probably won't bother you unless you are very picky about your screen being perfect.

So far only the c2 (clear) is available for the X50v. There is no anti-glare available for ithe X50v from PPCtechs. Keep in mind the X50 has a slightly different sized screen.

Great post. I agree with you 100%. I'm just one of the picky ones. Plus I keep my PPC's about a year, then sell them on eBay before getting my next one. And PPC's are a little easier to sell when you can say your screen is perfect.
I'm about to buy the c2 screen protectors on pocketpctechs.com. Does anyone know if the Aximsite discount code "AXIMSITE0503" is still valid for 15% off? There's no way to tell if a discount code is valid until after you've completed the checkout and I'd rather know before I did so!
