Hi there. I just got this keyboard the other day, and so far I'm really enjoying it. I got it to work thanks to the file a few posts up (though I seem to have two versions of the driver installed, only one of which shows up in the remove software list, but hey, I works). The only thing still bugging me is the mouse. As far as I can tell, there is a mouse there, since when I hold down the "confirm" button, I can see those little circles show up around a spot where the cursor shoul be, but the cursor itself is invisible. I tried a few things to make it visible, such as running the remote keyboard program which does put a cursor on the screen, but it didn't respond to the keyboard's mouse, nor did it work when I used nyditot and turned the "display cursor" feature on. Does anyone know if the mouse works on any pocket pcs? It looks from the booklet like I might just be for palms. Also, I've been using the function key with the arrows, but they're not true arrow keys even with that (plus it would be nicer I there was a function-lock key!) since it doesn't work in all cases, such as scrolling in the start menu. Anyhow, I wanted to thank the forum members for getting it to work so well already, and hope someone can figure out how to use the mouse soon!

Hi there guys. I keep trying to make the targus keyboard work but nothing. I follow the steps that you all mention but the only thing I get is the enable box checked. I try to type on different programs but nothing. I sent a message to Vicolee because he seems to be master when it comes to the targus hoping that I get an answer that solves my problem. If anybody can tell me what I'm doing wrong or what I need to do. Thanks.

Hey,

I have an Axim X51v and I just got the Targus keyboard working on it from the files in this thread - thanks.

However, the mouse thing isn't working. I cannot scroll in Word etc. Does anyone have any idea on how to get it working?

Also, when I have the Keyboard software running in the background, and then I turn off the PDA, when I turn it back on the screen is all garbage (same problem that used to happen with the About problem in the software, except that fix was applied to my driver for the keyboard).

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers,
Chris

UTStarcom 6700
Hey people,

I know that this forum is for AXIM ppcs.

But I recently purchased a Targus universal wireless keyboard for my Windows Mobile 5 runned UTStarcom 6700 pocket pc.

I have the same message that everyone keeps getting when I try to enable the keyboard:

"Connect Failed: Another process is using the infrared port. Inspect StarMenu\Settings\Connections\Beam and uncheck "Receive all incoming beams".

I've done everything like soft resetting and trying to use that modified .ddb file that someone posted up, but it still doesn't work.

I know my ppc6700 isn't listed on the compatibility chart, but like, I thought, since it's Windows Mobile 5, it should work right?

Does anyone know how I can modify the IRKeybd.ddb file so that it will work with my device?

My device information is as follows:
Model No. PA10A1
Platform PocketPC

Can anyone help me?

Thank you very much.

If you are having trouble try these things:

Use the file I provided 22Feb07 about 10 posts back.

Right click IRKeybd.ddb.txt and Save target as to your PC.
Rename IRKeybd.ddb.txt to IRKeybd.ddb.
Put this file in your Windows directory on your AXIM.
Copy and paste it into Windows over writing the original.

Make sure you uncheck Receive all incoming beams.
(Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Beam)

Soft reset. After reset you should be able to enable the IR Keyboard driver

Start -> Settings -> System -> System Information
Check the exact model. Mine is:
DELL Axim X51v

Right click IRKeybd.ddb.txt and Save target as to your PC. While it is still a .txt file, double click to open and view with notepad. It should look somthing like this:

I R K e y b d D e v i c e D B
v 1 . 3 9 T o s h i b a e 3 1 0 C O M 2 : T O S H I B A e 3 3 0 C O M 2 : T O S H I B A e 3 5 0 C O M 1 : T O S H I B A e 4 0 0 C O M 1 : T O S H I B A e 7 5 0 C O M 1 : T O S H I B A e 7 4 0 C O M 2 : C E T 0 3 0 0 A C O M 2 : D e l l A x i m X 3 C O M 3 : D e l l A x i m X 5 1 v C O M 2 : D e l l A x i m X 5 C O M 3 : P W 1 0 B 1
I truncated the file for this post.

Exit notepad and rename the file to IRKeybd.ddb. Open it with wordpad. It should look different, you'll see a lot of character squares (unprintable characters.)

What you have to do is change an entry to your model.
Try to find one that is exactly the same length.
Examples are:
T O S H I B A e 7 4 0
D e l l A x i m X 5 1 v
C o m p a q i P A Q H 3 8 0 0
Do your editing with wordpad and use Save.
change only the printable (readable) characters.
The file length should not change when you save. (6,688 bytes)

I believe the com port used is the C O M X : entry following the model.
Try using C O M 2 : and C O M 3 :

You are on your own if this doesn't help.

Terry

Using Targus IR keyboard with x51v / a12 rom
The orginally posted IRKeydb.ddb and targus driver 1.39 didn't work for my x51v a12 rom axim so I modified the IRKeybd.ddb from 1.39 to work with my unit. This removes the IR in use error message for me. I hope this helps.

Edit: Uploaded the wrong file - fixed
Attached Files:
File Type: zip IRKeybd.zip (565 Bytes, 102 views)

How can we get a copy of the Driver?

I provided him with the necessary information from my X50v, and he gave me a file that gets the keyboard working. There are still a few problems with it that need to be ironed out, but the typing function work 100%.
Hi! Can others get a copy of the latest driver? I purchased a keyboard off of EBay and can't seem to get it running with the X51V, Mobile 5.0 and the IrDA driver provided.

Many thanks!

more targus keyboard problems
Last week we bought an x51v and after trying everything i could find online, I finally got it working.
Then this weekend we bought a CF adapter for our Pharos GPS and installed delorme maps. We couldn't get the pda to recognize the gps unit until we upgraded the axim rom from a06 to a12 which, of course, cleared everything we had just installed and set it back to factory settings.
I have tried every driver I have seen on this site and still can't get it work and am about to smash this baby, lol.
Also, sometimes when I load the driver, it goes to my documents and sometimes it's listed un my device. Where exactly is it supposed to go?
One more thing, I used remove program to remove the drivers tonight and removed every file I could find, but it still shows up in the program folder on the pda. When I view the program folder from the pc, it isn't there.

download http://www.targus.com/us/Downloads/IRKeybd_v1_39.exe.

Run that .exe on your PC, to install the IRKeyboard drive to your x51v.

Use the file I provided 22Feb07.

(Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Beam)

Soft reset. After reset you should be able to enable the IR Keyboard driver

There are other IRKeyboard.ddb files on this discussion. You could try using them. They remove all references to COM3 in the config file, which means there are never any conflicts with incoming beams. (I.E. not required to uncheck Receiving all incoming beams. ) See how Help -> About works in that version.
