Got the Targus IR keyboard and X50v working!
Yes, I am now typing away on my X50v with the Targus IR keyboard. The latest driver on the Targus website doesn't work, but I contacted a member of another site who has experiance writing the drivers for the Targus keyboard, as well as contacts at Targus. I provided him with the necessary information from my X50v, and he gave me a file that gets the keyboard working. There are still a few problems with it that need to be ironed out, but the typing function work 100%.

Ok, some of the problems have been fixed with the next version of the Targus driver, v1.32. It isn't on the Targus site yet, but it helps some. Even so, there is still a problem with the mouse. It works, you just can't see the mouse pointer on the screen. This problem is being worked on, and should be fixed by the time Targus release the official drivers.

In the meantime for all you out there that want to use your Targus IR keyboard with your X50v, I am attaching the file that will allow you to do so. You need to download the latest driver from Targus, v1.31 and install it on your X50v. Then, take the attached file and extract it from the ZIP folder. Then copy & paste it into the My Device/Windows folder on your X50v, and replace the existing file with the same name. It will now work!

There WILL still be some problems with the driver. It will take a while to load to the point where you can check the 'Enabled' box, and the mouse won't work right. But if there are any other problems, trouble installing the driver, etc., you can post them here, or PM me.
Attached Files:
File Type: zip IRKeybd.ddb.zip (577 Bytes, 313 views)

I just received my x50v yesterday, and bought the Targus IR keyboard on the way home from work. I've experienced the same problems and was about to take it back. Now, thanks to your help, I'll be trying it out this weekend and seeing how I like it. (The keyboard, that is!)

Can anyone tell me how to hide the text entry area while using Word and the keyboard? The notepad interface doesn't clutter up the screen with input areas while I'm using the keyboard, but Word seems to insist on it. Any ideas?

Regards,

Rich.

to get rid of the software keyboard, do a google on "Zenokeyboard" and you'll find a freeware app that will handle your request supurbly.

No problem. I actually sold this keyboard and shipped it out today, so I no longer have it. But I still have the keyboard files just in case.

Thanks for the driver, its working great except for the fact that the enable/disable screen seems to be loading EXTREMELY slow on my x50v. Is there something I'm doing wrong, or is everyone experiencing it?

That is one of the remaining problems with this driver. V1.32 fixes this, but it isn't available on their website yet. Check there for it periodically, I have no idea when they are releasing it.

I've used it a little and it seems more stable on my X30.

The Targus PA870U with the 1.33 driver works like a dream with the X50 ROM update: it no longer hangs when it's initialized.
