You may see this pinout on: http://pinouts.ru/PDA/dell_axim.shtml
Please not mistaken in the numbering of contacts. Pins of the cable and PDA are specified - in the mirror order.

[quote=Kenban]I know we have discused this before BUT I have some new information. If all you want is the warning skip the next paragraph.

I have found that the +5v from USB and the +5.4v from the wall plug DO come into the axim x50 from differant pins. When looking at the cable (not the axim) with the pins down the +5v is I think the 3rd over from the left on the second set of pins and the +5.4v is the rightmost pin or close to it. (hard to give exact pins without taking it apart). ...

Diy Usb Charger
hi,
just a quick question! im thinking about making my own usb charger (only charge not sync). ive got a usb cable lying around for some other equipment of which i have striped one end exposing the four wires red, black (positive and negative)and green/white (data). ive tested both usb voltage (5.1v) output and the wall plug charger output (5.4v)

would it be possible to use the adaptor that came with my axim (the adaptor used to charge the axim with the plug charger with out the cradel), and buy a plug (from any electrical electronics store )that fits into the adaptor and other end is my usb cable which is soldered to it ?????????

thanks

Yes, you can do that. What you accomplish is the same as a USB "charge and sync" cable. You feed the USB 5.0v into the 5.4 input on the Axim with the mentioned problems - and off cause you don't have the sync. possibility.

so from what i've read here, regardless of what USB sync / charge cable I have, as long as I have a car adaptor with v5 and 2.0A I'll be good? I currently have one that is v5 and 1A...but that doesn't charge while the Axim is on, only charges if I turn it off. Thanks

Define "good." If you are content to charge with it off, then good you will be. However, if you want it on and charging, then you'll need the 5v/2A adaptor AND a cable that uses the correct pins in the connector

Thanks JakeRich, I was hoping that I can use the USB charge cable I got right now but just buy a v5/2A power adaptor. I guess I have to get a whole new set.

I found Sony PSP car charger that output 5v, 1.5Amp. Does that enough to charge the axim while it power on? Anybody can confirm that plug (PSP) can be use to attach to dell default adapter? (the one that we plug in AC adapter in doesnt one to use cradle).

here the link

Or spend another $4 and get one that is specifically for the Axim (and free shipping thru the end of the year): http://shop.brando.com.hk/aximx50carcharger.php

Brando also has the same adapter with a USB connector for $13 but I couldn't quickly find the page.

Yup I know about the USB one it got output 5.4v 2A which is perfect for axim (it in car section), but I dont have USB cable that can charge at the same time. Still thinking which one to get. The PSP one got multi slot. Meaning can plug in another car charger for my BT GPS and cheaper also. I will use this only for charger and not for synch. Anymore thought guys?

Thanks for the tips about shipping, I thought shipping is free for particular item. Need to make the decision asap.

ps
the connection is really slow down here after the earthquake... dunno how long this will last.

Don't buy the retractable sync & charge cable from MobileStore1 on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/RETRACTABLE-Sync...QQcmdZViewItem)

Before finding this article, I purchased this cable, thinking it would work as good as the one for my iPAQ 2215 did. After experiencing the power fluctuation problems, failure to sync, and USB port power warnings, I emailed the vendor. They said they cable might be bad, and shipping me another one. After having problems with the replacement cable, I emailed them again. They assured me that they sell "hundreds" of these cables, and have never had any issues reported.

After finding this article, I emailed them back citing the facts from the article, and pointing out that this is a product design flaw, and misrepresentation wince the cable won't really sync *and* charge, and won't sync at all if the battery is below 80%. It's been 4 days now, and they have not replied.

BTW, the AC adapter outputs 5V at 1A ... it charged the PDA fine when it was off, didn't try turning it on. The DC car adapter has no writing on it ... so I don't know the power output. But I tried it in my car this morning with my battery at 50%, and it would not charge with the unit turned on, instead giving the samem power fluctuation issues of bright/dim screen and charging status going back and forth.

Hey ... I just had a thought. Would it be possible to use something like Pocket Hack Master to reduce the current demands, in order to still use this cable? Since the cable will sync just fine as long as the battery is above 80% or so, I wonder if I can limit the current the PDA is using so that even if the battery is lower ... it won't try to pull more than 500mA from the USB port.

Just a thought ...

Not sure you would need Pocket Hack Master, Kona. Keep the BT and WiFi radios off, run the processor in power-saving mode, turn off the backlight.

True ... I could do that. Although ... I had the thought while trying to get it to charge from the DC adapter in my car. The battery was around 50%, but I wanted Bluetooth (GPS communication) and the LCD to see my nav software. But I figured that it wouldn't matter much if it ran a little laggy. I forgot the OS lets you reduce the power consumption itself.

I may try to see if there's a combination of settings that yields a low enough power consumption for this cable\DC adapter to actually work.

Here are a few USB port type car chargers that appear to have the current sourcing capabilities needed. The fact that a couple have two ports is a plus.

Syn & Charge cable for X50v & X51v
I'm totally new to my Axm x51v. I travel alot and can't be bringing my cradle along. Just order 2 syn & charge cable from ebay as I can hardly find any X51v accessories in my country. My question is.

Does x51v and x50v shared the same syn n charge able? Coz I ordered and paid for x50v?

I ordered the car charger too. Does it really works?

Too much new things to cope.
