Brando also has the same adapter with a USB connector for $13 but I couldn't quickly find the page.
I ordered the one with the Axim cable and can't recommend it. The cigarette lighter side cable strain relief on the 1st one received was very loose. What the manufacturer does is take out the USB connector and replace it with a cable for the Axim. They used the wrong size strain relief. Brando was quick to send a 2nd one and that was fine. I then did a voltage test and found both at almost 5.8 V, a little too high for my comfort level. Next I opened them both up. The 1st one was missing the heat sink on the power transistor (yes transistor not voltage regulator). I did a load test and the voltage came down to approx. 5.6 volts on both. That told me the design doesn't have a lot of load regulation. Finally, I modified the voltage selection resistor network to get the voltage down below 5.4 volts without a load which brought it to about 5.2 volts under load.
After reading most of the posts in this thread, it seems that if I wanna charge my x51v and BT GPS receiver while driving, the best way to do it is to buy a car charger for each device and use a 2-socket car charger splitter. (instead of using usb charge cables and 2-port usb car charger)

The GPS receiver does not consume lots of power and it can last long unlike the Axim. My solution is to use the cheap Pelican SONY/PSP car charger ($5) and the Axim dongle. I plug the Axim in, all the time, when when the GPS receiver needs power, I can use the same charger too. See picture below:

I use it with the small Dell Charger Adapter connector which plugs into the bottom of the x51v. Haven't encountered your problem on mine - power button light is always on.
Only possibilities I can think of are :
- your battery is dead, so the axim quits charging
- for some reason, the cig lighter socket or the car charger is putting out too low a voltage or current, preventing charging
- something else is also taking power from the car charger besides the axim (eg. a powered cradle, or powered speaker)
An experiment would be to replace the car charger with the standard mains adapter, which has the exact same plug tip, as see how it does.
I have updated my link. I can't see your link either though :)
Standard mains charger works fine. I only got the car charger to use when abroad so I was in a rental car when I used it. Will see how it goes next time I am away.
I was thinking about ordering the car charger from the links you guys posted. Can you tell me if a car charger shortens the life of the battery vesus a home charger. I'm just concered and wanted to check here first.

Excuse me for my bad English
my tests with multimeter and DC power of laboratory of X50v :
Tests with CPU 624 Mhz(no reduce power),Bluetooth,Wifi (no reduce power),contrast maximum.
Vertical position for no problems thermal.
+ Run MN6 with sound for test maximum consumption.
Battery 1100ma and 2400ma at 50%.
Correct charger for car with heatsink (5v46 with maximum power consumption and charge 50%) :
Ok I just bought this external battery LINK and it is not charging the x51v like I was expecting. I spent a better part of the day reading all the posts about power issues and the only thing I found missing is working solutions. I know there are tons of options out there and it is hard to post all but what I want is pretty straight forward. I need an external batter that will allow me to charge my PDA from death and also let me use it at the same time. I would need to know all the wires and adapters that are used as well so I don't mess up again. My Dell also has a 2200mh battery and I know that makes a difference. I have already wasted money on this battery charger and I bought this sync/charger cable that does not work either so I don't want to waste any more money. Does anyone have WORKING solutions out there? If I bought that Black and Decker battery would that handle it and if so what wires and plugs do I need? Please send help!!! :)
Wow, what a thread. I read the whole thing and took some advice from it but would like to ask a question.
I have an X51v and it came with the Belkin kit, which has been found to not work properly for the X51v. I tried to use it as a sync cable but got the flashing screen and would not sync. someone in the thread said he took one and cut the jumper to the 5.4v lines (pins 1-4) and moved the red usb power to connect to pin 21 only. As I really wanted just a sync cable, I did this and it worked great. I can sync and transfer info and if I turn it off it will start to charge the unit. The problem, however is that every 5 min the unit turns back on. I did the fake exchange server trick to change things to manual and that works as long as it's not plugged into anything, but when the cable is plugged in and the unit is off, it turns on by itself and connects. Can I do something to stop this from happenning?
