I think I'm in over my head here. I recently switched over to an X51v from the X5 I've had for several years. I liked to use the X5 for navigation sometimes, so I got MapPoint w/ GPS (comes with a Pharos GPS unit and a CF adapter), and the Belkin X5 3-in-1 charge/sync kit. The charger worked great to power and charge the X5 simultaneously on my road trips, even with the GPS unit on. I was thinking of buying one of these USB sync/charge cables (Insten or Gomadic or whoever) for my new X51v, plugging it into the Belkin USB-to-cig adapter and using it in the same way. Will that work or not? How about using it with the Belkin USB-to-AC adapter? How about using it exclusively as a sync cable, without it trying to charge the axim? Is there even a way to do that?

This seems ridiculously confusing - why couldn't they just make a cursed cable that does what it's supposed to?!?!

For anyone looking for a AC adpater alternative, the Creative Zen power adapter outputs 5Vdc 2.4 Amp and has the proper connector to plug into the Dell sync and charge cradle. This adapter has the power to charge my x51v Axim with no problems.

I just found a whole shelf of these in my local Walmart on clearance for $16.00. Link to the product on the Walmart website is: Walmart.com: Creative Zen Power Adapter : Audio

It also has a USB mini B 5-pin male connector. If I can find a gender changer with USB mini B 5-pin female and a USB A Female, I could charge my Axim using my USB sync and charge cable.
