Dell's BT Keyboard
I just got Dell's bluetooth keyboard and am a little worried about the fact that there doesn't seem to be anyway to 'hold' the PDA in place--it just sits loosely in the stand.

I was going to let my students take this to class to type notes, but knowing kids and what does on in some classrooms, I'm worried that the Axim will get knocked to the floor.

Does anyone have a method to at least somewhat secure the PDA to stand?

Glue. Lots and lots of glue.

Actually, I was wondering the same thing when I saw pictures of it.

There isnt enough surface area for the velco to attach to.

It seems to me that it is fairly stable if you put it into landscape mode in the holder, and IMO is easier to use.

Looking at the holder nothing 'non-perminate' comes to mind as a method of holding it in place. Sorry.

I was going to get one, but I hear Dell is working on a thumb keyboard to plug into the bottom of the X50v. I will wait until it comes out instead. A guy at works has one for his iPaq and loves it.

I use the rhinocase and hook it onto the little piece of plastic that sticks up (the one that says do not put into the device). It seems to be a little more stable but I agree landscape it the best.

I use the Belkin Omnidock PDA cup holder. Twist the base off, flip it, screw it back on and your good to go and it holds the Axim closer to eye level.

The PDA just rests upright or on its side in the ThinkOutside stand, which can be detached from the keyboard.
It works great on an end table by my bed, where there in no foot-traffic. But I can see how that would be a bit flimsy for a school desk ("Watch out floor -- here comes my AXIM!").
ThinkOutside needed a design that would fold up. Maybe they'll offer a free holder that doesn't attach to the keyboard, or a better one that does. (I've already broken off one of the ends that hooks to the keyboard, although that doesn't effect the operation on it.)
I agree. A seperate stand that opens up and holds the $400-Axim securely is needed. (I think I'll go to the lumber yard and get some material to make one.)

An extra row for the numbers would be nice, but you can get used to it in a fairly short time. I still have problems getting it to connect sometimes. A student will borrow it to take to class and it won't connect, so they bring it back to me. I can't get it to connect. Then I try it after school and it works just fine. Then the next day it won't connect until I do a soft reset, etc. etc.

jpeterson,

Did you download the latest drivers from the ThinkOutside page? It also loads the BT mouse drivers, but I've found it is much easier to link my X30 to my Dell BT Keyboard after the drivers/firmware upgrade.

Try Arkon. There are many different mounting solutions that let you change the Angle and switch from portrait to landscape position. Just drill the mount to your desk.....
