I have ordered one G2500. I saw you are running navigation. Please tell me what GPS you are using. G2500 for X50v has no GPS Bundle as eMobile.com but I see there is a RJ-11 jack for GPS. Do you use any cable to hook up that Jack ?

I have one GPS Mouse for my iPAQ and I hope I can connect to G2500 that will be delivered to me later this month.

The mount that you have shown is just a car mount, it does not charge your PDA, it does not have a in-built speaker. For such a basic mount, IMHO $35 is a little bit on the higher side.

Arkon and Seidio are two good mount makers. You can get a list of all their mounting configuration from either buygpsnow.com or semsons.com. They have various combination of mounts...mounts that just hold the Axim, mounts that will hold your Axim and charge it too, mounts that will hold your Axim, charge it and also has an in-built speaker with the mount so that the Axim's audio can be outputted to this speaker for listening to MP3 songs, GPS audio instructions, etc.

Some time back, I remember seeing this % or $ discount code floating around to be used for buying one of these mounts.

Just FYI for powered mounts, if you did not know it, Arkon mounts are not PDA specific, so if you buy an Arkon mount it will work for your Axim X50 today and later if you buy some other PDA it will work for that too (provided you buy the cable). Seidio mounts are PDA specific, so a Seidio mount for Axim X50 will not work with other PDAs. But then with Arkon mount, once you put your Axim on the mount you have to then connect a cable. With Seidio mount, you just put your Axim in the mount and you are all set to go. Seidio mount are no doubt more convenient than Arkon mount.

That looks great. How is the cradle attached to the car? I am trying to avoid a windshield mount since that would really block my vision, but also want to avoid a vent mount. Yours appears to be mounted directly to the dash.

I have that mount and have 2 issues with it:

1. The side 'grips' have foam padding, but it's not enough to keep the X50v in place with just the resistance. I'm still thinking of a clean way to modify it so that the X50v doesn't fall out when I accelerate reasonably fast (say, from a standstill)

2. The suction cup mount has some issues of un-suctioning during extreme weather conditions (this makes sense, hot -> cold -> hot -> cold causes the suction plastic to change its suction properties). I managed to resolve the situation by cutting out plastic SHIM STOCK in the form of 'bread bag clips' and insert them in between the cup and neck to give the lock switch a little more resistance. This causes increased suction pressure, and I haven't had it fall off since.

I struggled for a long time thinking about where to put the mount because I use the X50v for GPS all the time. In the end, I settled on having the mount ABOVE my vents and dashboard. You would think that this would hamper my vision of the road, but, in fact, it's just the opposite. The X50v is just inside my peripheral vision, so that I can still make out the directions on my GPS without taking my eyes off the road. I've found that placing the X50v any lower caused me to look DOWN to see directions (when voice prompts weren't enough) leading to more dangerous situations.

So, IMHO, I'd recommend mounting the X50v a little higher than lower. As always, experiment, but a little trial and error will probably lead you to this same conclusion.

I'll try and post pix later today!

yeah... because of the layout of my interior having a mount attached to my windshield I would of lost anywhere from 30-50% visibility. So that definitely was not an option.

And as you can see from the picture above, because of my rounded vents, the vent mount wouldn't fit.

I ended up mounting it directly to the dash using a Panavise InDash vehicle specific mounting bracket. I really love the way it turned out.

They have mounting options for most vehicles. And if you don't mind tinkering with your car they are a cinch to install.

The seidio mount I bought doesn't support serial GPS devices. I have a Leadtek 9537 Bluetooth GPS. It sits under my windshield with a little velcro...and when I'm not using it, it charges in my glove box (out of sight).

Thanks for the pointer. Unfortunately, the panvise mount for my car is next to the shifter. Not a good place for a GPS display.

However, they did provide a picture of the mount and it looked just like a piece of metal with some bends and holes drilled in it. Is that pretty much what it is? If so, maybe I will just make up something of my own.

BTW, how readable is the GPS display when it is over on the passenger's side?

Basically yes... But it's very high quality (No jagged edges, painted). It also comes predrilled with holes that line up perfectly with the seidio mounts.

The panavise mounts are tilted towards the driver... So it is totally readable. and is actually closer to me then my radio.

That being said, if you wanted, you could probably fabricate your own mount. I just am not that technically inclined when it comes to machining.

I think the best option is always the Brodit Mounts. They're a two or three piece solution.

You buy a non-invasive trim mount. This fits behind parts of the dashboard. In the case of my 01 Renault Laguna you pry away a bit of the vents and the natrual resistance keeps the mounting platform in place.

At the same time you buy a cradle/holder for the piece of equipment your looking to install. I have a holder for my Ipod and C500 Smartphone. I also had one for my IPAQ 22xx (which has now been ebayed). I'm waiting for the X50v mount.

Each cradle can be screwed on the mount or (in my case) have a MOVE Mount glued on the back (then swapped at will). It's a great solution and only a small part needs to be changed with each device.
