2gig CF Sandisk Extreme III vrs the 2gig CF Sandisk Ultra II
I have been using the 2gig CF Sandisk Ultra II card now for a few months with absolutely no problems. Reads and writes fine.

Has anyone tried the 2gig CF Sandisk Extreme III with the Axim x50v? I also have a Digital Rebel. I would like the idea of faster write spead for the camara raw images. Not sure if the faster speed will be any notable difference on the x50v.

Anyway, I was hoping if someone can give any type of feedback.

Thanks

shouldnt be noticable on the x50v...main advantages to the extreme is a better durability and shock proofing

The CF Extreme III series have speed of 130x. Even a normal USB 2.0 CF card reader can't coupe with that speed.

I actually called SanDisk about this a few days ago because I am buying a 1gig card for my camera (SD). The guy said that I should stick to UltraII because PocketPC's don't have the capabilities to use the extra speed. He said that the only devices that will benefit from the ExtremeIII cards a professional digital cameras (8-10megapixel he noted).

This is interesting. My friend purchased a microdrive 2.2gig. It was fairly fast. Don't have the specs with me right now, however, it would not write. Just read. Someone advised that it had something to do with the write speed (too fast for the unit, so it just wouldn't write). I was afraid that the Extreme III cards would have the same effect. Darn. Owell, I guess I'll just stick with the Ultra II's for the PPC.

It's not likely that you'd see any speed increase. The limiting factor is normally the CF interface in the PDA and not the card's speed.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts and replies. In retrospect, I really don't care about the speed issue in the PDA itself now. If I buy an Extreme III 2gig, I would really be purchasing it for the benefit of the Digital Rebel. However... I also like the idea of having some add'l storage space for the PDA.
My main concern now is that it will read and write fine just as the Ultra II 2gig does in my x50v.

Any additional thoughts or experience on the matter are welcomed. Thanks

you should NOT have a problem with it in the x50v.....microdrives are REALLY REALLY slow compared to the Ultra or Extreme cards....there should be no problem....

agreed, it should work just fine. you would have a card that read/writes as fast as the PDA it is in can do so. Effectivly making the PDA the bottleneck and not the memory card (as we are used to).

I have the Extreme III for my 20D, and a UltraII, and there really isnt much difference... the Extreme does have the edge on the Ultra II, just not worth the extra money.

I was researching the forum and found another link on the subject.
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...extreme+III+CF

This discussion has a link regarding speed comparisons:
http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/mul...?cid=6007-6133

Neogeek, you right. 12.933MB/sec vrs 11.111MB/sec certainly isn't that considerable. Ya..., why spend the extra money? If there is no difference what so ever in the PDA and minimal on the camera...what's the sence? I'll stick with the Ultra II's and spread the word in the office and with friends. I had up a bunch of people waiting for the results of my findings before ordering their memory cards.

Thanks all, for the great replies. AximSite Community Forum is number one!!!
