Got Pocketop IR Keyboard working with X50V

:approve:
Here are instructions to get the Pocketop IR keyboard working with your X50 - it is not perfect, but it works and it is free.

I got wm2003_2.cab file from http://www.kpda.com/data/pocketop/WM2003_2.cab - Then I modified it on my laptop using freeware xvi32 hex editor (http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delph...vi32/xvi32.htm) - doing a search for hex characters:
78 00 69 00 6D 00 20 00 58 00 35 00 00 00
(x i m space x 5 )

and replacing it with

78 00 69 00 6D 00 20 00 58 00 35 00 30 00
(x i m space x 5 0 )

(found twice - at hex addresses 1ACBE and 3892A)
and saving.

Then copy that file to your X50 and tap on it to install (not sure if you need to have cabinstall (www.s-k.al.ru/wince.html) or not)

Soft-Reset the device

Open word - click on Pocketop keyboard...if you get the error - "Unable to open COM port" - use registry editor of your choice (http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/) to modify key (search for IRDA)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Drivers/BuiltIn/IrDA/Index to 4 and soft-reset again. (Caution - this might make your IR port unusable with other applications like ActiveSync - if so, change the value back to 2 and reset again whenever you want to use the IR port for other apps).

Voila! The keyboard should work - except the icons are tiny because of the VGA screen (they are still sized for qvga)

For easier typing, you can flip the screen 180 degrees using the utility found here:
http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconVa...reenRotate.zip (or you can set the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\ROTATION to 180)

YackMan - with help from TrevorJ

PS - I would post the modified CAB but I don't want Aximsite to get in trouble because the thieves at pocketop are now charging for the driver ($10 - but it isn't even available yet!) - I've emailed and emailed offering to beta test, but haven't heard back from them.

This is just a fantastic post, I have searched high and low for this information for weeks. Your instructions allowed me to use my Pocketop IR Keyboard that I purchased for my X5 on my new X50... Thank you...

Yackman and Trevor, YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!! BTW have you by chance found a way for pocket excel to have conditional formatting? That would be even better.

From what I understand, PocketExcel does not support conditional formatting - but a quick google search shows that PlanMaker for PocketPCs 2004 does - and appears to work seamlessly with Excel...it is $49.95 - and has a trial version.

Hope that helps.

Oh, and DonxUK - you're welcome! Glad it helped.

Great Job Yackman. I knew that attending the meetings would make the Axim a better machine for you. :)

Yackman.
YOU are the man!!! It took some work on my part cause I am what I consider a power user not an administrator/programmer, but it worked!! The only difference is that I found one hex address at 1ACAC and the other at 38928.

Thanks a million!

Thanks

Thanks Yackman.
I followed your excelent instructions and my Pocket top keyboard now works beautifully with my X50v, including function keys. I was damned if I was going to pay (even $10) for a driver for a piece of hardware I had bought only a year ago for £50. I won't be buying Pocketop again, even though their keyboard is very good, and thanks to you I have at last got it going again.

Regards

Thanks Yackman, you rock!

Unfortunately the site with the cab file is down. Does anyone know where else we can get the cab file? Any help is extremely appreciated!

Anyone get the cab file?

Did anyone manage to get the cab file listed in the beginning of the thread? The site's in another language but all it gives is a 404 error. Any help with this cab file would be great.

Thanks,
DrBones
