Easy Homemade Flip Cover...
Ok folks, I haven't done mods for awhile. I just got my x50v and here I am pulling out the heat gun and Dremel already ...

First things first, if you want to make a really simple plastic flip cover for your Axim, check out the url below for photos (sorry, they didn't turn out as clear as I would like them to be, I used my cheapy 2 megapixel pocket camera instead of my 4 megapixel).

Anyways, here's how I did it.

1. I bought a nintendo cartridge plastic case at a surplus store for $.49, you can also use a VHS case as well.

2. I measured the axim and cut out the template (see photos) make sure you use the "hinge" part of the case cover as your "flip" part for the axim cover.

3. Unlike plexiglass, the plastic used for these covers are nice and thin and flexible, believe it or not, I cut the whole thing with a pair of hardware scissors. It's thin but thick enough to make a nice protective cover.

4. once you cut it out, all that is to do is start bending the arms with a heat gun til you get a snug fit over your axim.

5. use the dremel took to smooth out the edges and corners and wala, you're done.

** Took me about 45 minutes to make this. You can use it as just a normal cover or flip the cover up to use without taking it off, it's a bit stiff but it works, I'm sure through time, the hinge will loosen nicely. Good luck and good modd'n!

See photos here: Axim Homemade Flip Cover

Sweet. Nice work.

I wonder though if it'll attain the status of George M's "Sliver Slider".

I couldn't pass the chance to reminisce.

try this link...
Sorry, darn Yahoo web space, it's free but bandwidth restriction is silly, why bother I say.

Try this url: Flip Cover photos

Anyways, it works pretty good. I did the cover up for fun really, saw the plastic case for $.49 and I couldn't resist. It's a nice alternative if you can't afford a Sena Case or if you're sick of the oem micro fiber case.

I am impressed! You sure have a lot more skill and creativity than I have. I wouldn't even attempt such a thing!

Does anyone know if this same thing could be done for X5? I'm very interested in trying for it...

Do you possible have a 'blueprint' of where the cut lines are and such? Also, where can I get this Nintendo Cartridge? Any ideas for really cheap?

I don't see why you couldn't do it with the x5, I also have an x5 which is now a dedicated gps pda The only problem I see with the x5 is that it's wider and where the "clip" on the top will cover the sd slot.

I don't have a blueprint unfortunately, see diagram for the cut out. You can also use a vhs case, you can buy them pretty much anywhere, music stores, walmart etc. they are very cheap now cause vhs's are pretty much out. If you're in canada, I got mine at Princess Auto, they were selling Nintendo cartridge cases and vhs cases for like super cheap and in different opague colours. Hope this helps, another place to try is your local video store. See picture below.

Good Luck!
