Dell slip case??? Good or bad???
Has anyone ever encountered having problems with their Axim X50 due to the Dell slip case of being too tight? Dell's sending me a replacement which will arrive in a couple of days since my touch screen has been acting up since yesterday. The accuracy of the stylus point is way off the mark and I have to do a screen alignment every time. I tried replacing the screen protector too (wasted 3) and still no good.

So, was this caused by the Dell slip case of being too tight or what? Anyone ever encountered the same experience? I just wanna make sure that if it is so, then I won't be using the slip case when my replacement arrives.

Thanks in advance!

There are many posts with stories of the slip case pressing against the screen and causing a "moire" pattern, which looks like an oil slick on the screen. This can affect the accuracy of the touchscreen. Sometimes you need to hold the Axim at an angle to see this pattern. Do you have this on your Axim?

I have been using the slip case on my X50v since I purchased it and have not had any problems. However, hearing of the potential for a moire pattern, I stretched my slip case out before I started using it. I did this by sticking my fingers inside and pushing the side that faces the screen outward so that there was a little hump in the middle of the case. Sort of like some folks do to the bill of a baseball cap.
I would suggest that you do this if you plan to use the new slip case.

I really like the case. I originally purchased an IPAQ which had a very weak case in comparison. The only thing I have to keep an eye on is that with the case being so snug it will sometimes push the power button turning the PDA on.

I regularly use the slip case that was supplied with my X30h. Just make sure the screen faces away from the belt clip. I assume that the case for the X50v is similar.

I went to the Sena case and just love it. No problem with the slip case being too tight, just couldn't stand having to remove and re-insert the unit every time. Too many opportunities for an accident! I'd rather have my X50 protected all the time, not just when I'm NOT using it.

hmph... I noticed this on my replacement x50v.... from a sharp angle I have a "rainbow" rectangle in the middle of the screen (approx 1/4 screen size, centered). I can't say I notice it when the unit is on.. I thought it might be some kind of residue from the original screen protector, but maybe not.

But in general the case IMO is low quality... mine wasn't even "even", ie, it kind of "tacos" along the bottom. Gets ya by until you buy a real case I guess.

I have not seen any post on the moire pattern that associated the moire with the accuracy of the touchscreen. It's mostly a cosmetic factor. The moire comes from the change in the geometry caused by the constant pressure on the screen from the slipcase and it fades over time when the unit is removed from the case. But the geometry change should NOT affect the accuracy of taps, that is determined by a completely separate process.

I think it's good for what it does which is protect your device when your not using it. I'm going to get a flip case to protect my device while I'm using it.

Thanks guys! I'll run more tests and try to find out what's the cause of this. I did a hard reset twice and the touch screen was still way off the mark even before and after restoring data back up. I never dropped my Axim. This only happened right after I landed Las Vegas. I don't think my flight could have been the cause on my Axim to act this way while blasting GS Player at 36,000 feet nor the weather coming from 0 degrees in Michigan and up to 50-60 degrees here in Las Vegas.

Is this moire pattern permanent or temporary. Would it damage the PDA ?

My screen protector (Exim) would stop working every time I put my x50v in the slip case, so I had to stop using the screen ptoector until I got my hard case.

Another thing with the slip case - the idiots who made it stitched the Dell logo label with hard nylon thread. I put my Axim back into the slip case with the screen facing the label (in the dark) and now I have a light scratch down the front of my screen (no screen protector as I said above). I can't 100% prove that the scratch came from the case, but it is pretty much vertical and in line with the logo label.

My advice - get another case and chuck the slip case in the bin.
