Car Charger and Seido
I've seen and read multiple threads on the issues of car charges and using your axim's on the road. It looks as if Seido has a good selection, but I've also read some horror stories about not receiving the product. I would really like to know which one is decent that allows me to plug in while I'm driving/flying so that the battery doesn't drain while I'm using it.

On another note...

The glare on my x50v is crazy when outside. What's the best protector that really cuts out the glare?

Thanks a million!

the antiglare by boxwave will help with glare...but may not look as nice as if you went with their cleartouch (but the cleartouch are just as reflective as the screen)

I use the 2500G, which is the cradle for BT GPS. I love mine. I had a problem with the speaker and they quickly exchanged it. They did send the wrong replacement part (an X5 part instead of an X50 part) but they quickly made it right.

David Chang seems to monitor this site a little and always seems to be on top of customer service. I'm sure some have had problems, but they always seem to make things right in the end. I think you will be happy with them.

The thing to remember about the Seidio products are they they're device-specific, so you can only use them with one model PPC. I personally prefer it that way. Also, the X50 will not fit in the cradle with a case on it. The fit is snug, but does not appear to scuff the surface in any way.

Let me know if there is anything else you want to know.

Hi,

Seidio totally backs up our products. I am here quite often to interface the community to answer the product questions or solve any problems our customers may have.

We always try to do it right for the first time. However, we are definitely not perfect yet. Sometime we may have missed some emails or did not reply the email in a timely manner or did not perform to our standard. No matter what, we will try very hard to make it right in the next available opportunity.

David, do you know if your x50v car charger (Cigarette Lighter Charger for Dell Axim X50) charges an x50v while it is on? What is the amperage output?

Hi David,

Good to see you getting involved. Perhaps you could give me some advice.
I have just taken delivery of a G2500 GPS Ready Mount (SEIG2500) for a Dell Axim X50v.

I don't yet have the Dell Axim, but I connected up the cradle in my car, and I seem to have a problem.
The green light on the 12v plug (the one that plugs into the cigar lighter) is on. However, the light on the cradle does not illuminate. Perhaps it doesn't 'till an Axim is inserted...

Also, my wired Tom tom receiver light is not blinking. The same wired receiver blinks (and works okay) in a Tom tom supplied cradle.

I know that power is getting to the cradle, because it gets warm.

Before I contact the UK supplier (Smart Devices, formerly Peripheral Corner) to arrange a replacement, can you just confirm that the unit sounds defective?

Thanks

Martin

Power cord worries
I just got my G2500 for the X50v yesterday.

I disconnected my GPS charger which was showing the green power light, and tried to plug the power cord into both my extra 12v outlet & the cigarette lighter without the light turning on (the cradle was not connected at that time). Plug my GPS charger back in, no power. Check the fuses, sure enough, 2 busted 15A fuses. After replacing the fuses my GPS charger works again.

Don't even know if the cradle itself works, since I have no means of powering it. Or can I use the regular car charger supplied with my Dell BT GPS? It uses the same plug, but since there are noe specifications on the Seidio power cord I can't compare them.

So far I'm not a happy camper. Have to see if Seidio-Europe's customer service can make it right before I will recommend their products to anyone.

The Seidio takes 12v. The dell puts out 5.5v. You can gat a straight pass-through cord pretty much anywhere, but Seidio should stand behind their product.

HI yes, it will charge the X50V while it is on. The output amperage is 1.2 Amp.

Hi,

Like Jack's reply, our G2500 car power cord is 12v and Dell BT GPS charger is 5V. They are not interchangable.

We will send you a new car G2500 on Monday. Please email me your order # or your address. Please do not use the old Charger.

Sorry for the problem.

Hi David,

Thanks for responding - it it is appreciated, and says much about Seidio as a company.

The power cord (which plugs into the car's 12 v outlet), is a plain black, simple affair. I can't see anywhere that there would be a fuse. There is no writing on the cable at all.
Do you think Smart Devices have supplied a non standard cable?

It would be very helpful if you could point me to a link with a picture of the correct power cable to allow comparison (and aid any forthcoming discussions with Smart Devices).

I have a bad feeling that I'm going to end up with a fine Seidio cradle which I can't use because I have the wrong power cable...Smart Devices took quite a bit of prompting just to send the unit, as they never responded to emails.

Thanks for your advice.

David,

Thanks for the kind gesture. Not every company understands the benefit of turning a problem into outstanding customer support.

Needless to say, I will always be looking to Seidio first when I next want to purchase this type of item.

Best Regards
