X50v Screen Protector
I just got an X50v screen protector. I read various reviews including the one here...I chose the Protector Plus from Brando because it was said to be the best fit. I ran the hot water in the bathroom to get rid of the dust in the air. I used a Scotch Brite microfiber dusting cloth to clean the screen along with a can of compressed air dust remover to blow out the dust that had collected underneath the edges. I managed to get the screen perfectly clean. Then I applied the new protector very carefully starting from the left side, not the top or bottom...my reasoning being that if it was closely aligned along the longer edge starting out, it would be easier to get it started out closer to "sqare" than the other way. Either it worked or I got lucky, cause I only had to lift it up and start again once. I got it perfectly positioned on the second try. The steam thing worked well also because there is not a single spec of dust underneath. The size is just about perfect and there are no gaps along the sides. I used a toothpick to lift the old protector (the one that came with the Axim) and to reposition the new protector, lifting them from the corner. I had to whittle the toothpick to a flat, sharp point with a razor knife, but it worked very well with no damage to the screen.

I just have to say that I'm very glad I chose the Brando protector.

I've only had my X50v about a week and I'm real glad I chose it as well. It's my first PDA.

I too have the Brando protector and agree it's a good one.

Moved to accessories.

one that came with the axim? Does that mean my x50 has a protector on it from the factory?

There is a plastic film that covers the screen of a new Axim (from the factory), but this is not the screen protector. Screen protectors are after market accessories.

If these scratches are on the plastic film and they should not leave a permanent mark on your screen. However, if you have already removed the film (it should be quite obvious if you still have the film or not), then the marks may be permanent.

film.... im thinking it either resembles the things that come on most electronics (like cell phones and radio's that cover the plastic faces. I do not remember removing one like that from my x50v....but i cannot tell if this is the main screen or not. Guess i better live with it and order me some nice protectors asap.

well i just put on one of these Universal protectors. (i got the kit from comp usa only screen cleaners in the building) and well it works. I found out though that when i use my stylus at any sort of angle it scratches the protector. Dono why but it does. Even the stylus/pen combo that came with the kit doesnt right near as much of a scratch as the stock stylus. Looks like i need to get some goooood protectors and a good aftermarket stylus. Any recomendatons. I see brando's are good protectors. Anything else?

The stylus that comes with the Axim shouldn't scratch the screen unless there is some nick or something on the tip. Run it along your finger to see if you feel anything. As for other good protectors, most people recommend Brando, Boxwave or WriteShields.

I got a package of 12 protectors from Dell when I bought my X50v...I had put one of these on first thing, and that's the one I talked about removing. It had big gaps along the sides and I had got a lot of dust underneath it so I wanted something better. Now, since the Brando fits the screen so precisely, I wouldn't think about recommending anything else...according to the side by side comparisons done by the experts, the other factors seemed close to equal...so getting a perfect fit weighs very heavily in favor of the Brando, imho.
