I have a Stereo Headset WITH Mic working just fine
I am mostly a lurker here but I found that so many people were saying that a stereo headset with a mic would not work (in stereo that is ) through the headphone jack on the top of the x50 (and I assume the x50v is the same).

I do have this working with a $13 dongle purchased from http://pc-mobile.net/audioadapter.htm. Someone else posted on AximSite this link but I have still seen people posting that it cannot be done.

If you go to the URL I just posted and scroll down to the adapter with the code 'PTAMS' you will see it and a link to the toshiba page where there is more of a description for it.

I have tested it with Skype and with the newest Vonage Softphone Pro for the PPC. They work fine with it as does the Voice Command from Microsoft.

In addition the audio portion comes over both headphone speakers and it sounds the same as if I did not have the adapter.

Now the only caveat is when you order the adapter it is sent from Hong Kong via USPS Air mail (or something) and you have to be home to sign for it (and the shipping is $5). Besides that... it does seem to work fine.

If I notice any problems with it in the future I will post them up.

Thanks for sharing. So just to clarify, the speaker and the mic jacks are 3.5mm and allow you to use a regular PC stereo headset?

Here is a pic...
Here is a picture of the adapter and the headset's two connectors attached. The software on the screen is Xten's SIP softphone that I use with a Vonage VoIP account.

I just posted a picture. Yes they are the typical 3.5 mm adapters that "seem" to be standard on every stereo headset/mic I have seen.

Have you also tested to make sure that it was not the external mic that was picking up sounds? I know this happened to a few people.

Yes, it was very apparent that the mic on the headset was being used.

I meant to post that I had tested this because I have seen other ask this same question. I did the simple "tap" test where I tapped the internal mic and then tapped the mic on the headset to see which one was loudest. The mic on the headset was "all" I heard when tapping. The internal mic was "off" while the headset adapter was plugged in.

In other words it worked exactly as one would expect it to work.

Great! I'm definitely going to look into this adapter. Too bad the store is closed for the next 10 days.

Ouch... I did not see that they were closed for Chinese New Year. That certainly explains why the cable had to come all the way from Hong Kong.

Hi,

Seidio offers a 2 in 1 retractable headset. You can listen to MP3 music, or talk/record. Great for Skype or VoIP programs.
