Screen Protectors
I have an Axim x50v. How effective are the screen protectors for them? Do I really need one?

IM(not soH)O..........screen protectors are totally unecessary. If you're careful (which I'm not), you won't get anything more than invisible "skritchies" that can only be seen with the screen OFF and held at just a particular angle.

As I said, I'm not all that careful, I've had 5 PDAs in the last 5 years and NONE of 'em have any major scratches on 'em.

I read an interesting post in another forum, awhile back, which postulated that screen protectors were intentionally made of slightly softer material than the screens they are protecting........so that, when you take an old one off to replace it, it is "horrendously" scratched, etched and hazy in order to prove how good a job it was doing!

Not completely implausible!

I much prefer to go runnin' 'round NEKKIT, myself!!

i do agree with Mr. Ks comment on how some are made soft so you can see that they are doing their job, but if you get good ones like boxwave or writeshield, they do not scratch easily

for me it just makes me feel safer

I have an old PDA and the screen did get scratched noticeably along the scroll bar area and the close box area. This was visible, even with the PDA on. This makes me a bleiever in screen protectors.

As far as the soft protectors go, I think it depends on the brand. When I got my first protectors for my Axim, I got Dell. That was a major mistake. They got scratched and hazed within a week or so and had to always be replaced.

Now I bought WriteShield and couldn't be happier. First off. I had a perfect installation the first time. It was straight, unbubbled, and lint free. Second, there isn't so much as a scratch in it yet.

The beauty is that you can always replace the screen protector if you are wrong about them not being needed. It's expenisve to replace the screen if you end up wrong.

I'm going to chuck my 10p's worth in again.

Get a screen protector - you've spent a fortune on a PDA, don't wreck the screen.

I've owned loads of PDAs over the years. You're unlucky if you get a big scratch, but what you do get is plenty of scuffing after prolonged use. There's no need for that - especially when you won't even notice that you've got a screen protector on.

Mark.

I would HIGHLY recommend a good screen protector. I use the Boxwave ClearTouch for my X5. They last a long time, interfere very little with visibility, and really do prevent scratches on the glass.

Before I got them, I found the even using a stylus can scratch your screen. And once those annoying scratches are there...you can't do anything about them.

I think you should get screen protectors, it'll keep your ppc in a good shape and eliminate minor scratches that you will get on your screen after a while. One day when you'll want to sell it, it will have a better value with a clean/clear screen.

This is my best advice as far as screen protectors are concerned. DON'T BUY CHEAP ONES!!!

Quick question about the BoxWave's...how do they stay on the screen? I personally use the WriteRights which have a sticky backing to adhere to the screen. It doesn't leave a residue, but it does get hazy after a while. I want something harder, but need it to stick on the screen like the WriteRights.

Whichever you get, I agree, DON'T get the ones from Dell. On the same note, I would advise you to not go cheap. Although the more expensive ones such as WriteShield, and BoxWave cost more upfront, they never wear out. You'll be using the same one for a long, long time, whereas the cheap ones have to be replaced every month or so.

Sure you need a screen protector. Especially if you play games like Bejeweled

BoxWave makes ones of the best protectors out there albeit not cheap. I'm using them for last 4 years (Sony Clie -> Dell Axim x3i -> Dell Axim x50v).

Anti-glare version

They also have Crystal version
