Can someone recommend a car charger?
After reading about all of the problems the x50v has with 3rd party charging cables, I am wondering if anyone can tell me which car charger will work? I am interested in the Belkin USB Sync Charger Kit sold on dell's web site. has anyone used that one?

Well after trying one out that didn't have enough juice, someone pointed this one out to me and I ordered it yesterday.

If 2 amps won't do it then I quit. If you can wait a couple days I'll post the results. Will be trying it with the usb sync cable from Boxwave.

It looks like this one only delivers 5v in output. The Axim X59v requires 5.4v. The 2000mA is good...

It has been reported in other posts that the below kit, which offers the car charger + USB sync&charge seems to work fine, the battery extender however does not work.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=5751095334

The seller (Peakcloudy) agrees to sell the kit w/o the battery extender at $17.95 shipped.

I've been using this one for two months now and it's been fine at charging while playing music etc. If you're looking for just a basic car charger without adding syncing capabilities, this should do it.

If the 5v is firm, at 2A it should work. The Ax can take 5v, just not much below that.

I personally use a USB/car charger with mine - found on Ebay. I keep the sig lighter/USB adapter in the car and the actual cable at work - cheap man's sync cradle

Yeah.. 5 should work though. From what I've seen the magic range is 5 - 5.6. My wall usb charger is 5v (on the dot) 2 amps and works great. So I'm hoping, if anything, the car charger at at 5 or a little high.

Is that the standard USB sync charger that came with your Axim X50v IF you ordered it? If So then rest assured that this one works . Although the first time with all the fuzz about USB sync charge cables my hand shook .. have used it now for a total of 7 times.. ( been using it for a week now)

Here is a thread about one that I use and love. And it works for other USB items as well, such as a cell phone or GPS unit.

According to that thread the car charger has these specs:

Car Charger: Model USB-CLA
Input: 12 - 24 Vdc
Output: 5.5 Vdc; 700 mA

Which should be enough to charge the x50v at any time as long as the unit is off. But have you tried using the x50v while charging with the battery at something lower then say 50%? I wouldn't think that is enough juice? The graphs in the accessory section lead me to believe 1 amp + is needed to safely use and charge the x50v with it's battery pretty well depleated.

I can't recall that I have paid any attention to the % remaining when I began charging. I guess that would be a good thing to know. I'll have to test that out and get back to you.

that is the charger that I am thinking about purchasing, the x50 version anyway. if it can charge the axim from a low charge, it would be perfect.

Ok, I ran the Ax down to about 30% power then connected the car charger and in about 20 minutes I was at 80%.
Now what I did find out is when I had the charger connected and the PPC turned on playing music, the battery sharge was being used. But when I turned the Ax off, then I would get it to charge. So, the charger is only for charging, not maintaining battery level while in use.
I hope this helps.
