In search of some decent earbuds...
Hey All,

I am really interested in replacing my low-quality generic earbuds with something a little more nice. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations/reviews that they could point me towards. I'm looking at the Sony MDR-EX71SL. I just love the X50v Mix program and I was just wondering which headphones would best complement my beautiful Axim. Also, what settings would you recommend setting x50v Mix to?

Cheers

P.S. The reason I posted this in the X50 section is because I want to tailor the responses down to solely x50v users who utilize the Mix program.

Pick up a couple of These, they're pretty high tech, so might be a bit pricey, though.

I doubt you're willing to spend $100s on earbuds, but take a look at these: http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/audio/69b9/

For that kind of price, I'd expect them to be quite good.

EDIT: Take a look at this site. It compares several different earbuds.

I can thoroughly recommend the Shure E3's. They are in-ear type, not just ear buds. This makes them great for sound isolation as well as high quality audio. I use mine for air travel instead of noise cancelling headphones. The sound isolation of the Shure E3's is way ahead of even the most expensive Bose noise cancelling headphones.

We also use these Shure E3's for musicians stage performances for in-ear monitors. They love them as well.

The E2's are less expensive and aimed at the iPod consumer market. The E3's are the entry level professional earphones, with the E5's being the very expensive top-of-the-line model.

I got my last 2 pairs for US$135 delivered to a US address (while I was traveling in the USA from Australia).

I have the Shure E2Cs. Very good. Great isolation and acoustics in my opinion. You should be able to get them for <US$100

I also use these. TThe sound is pretty good, much better than some of the Sony's that I tried. They only cost about $20.

Long time listener - first time caller.

I use the Sony MDR-EX71SL's with my X50 and they work great. You get noise isolation, but not total isolation which is important in an urban environment. They also have a low-key look which doesn't scream I have an iPod or I just walked-off a stage and left my monitors in.

There is really no need to search, results have been obvious

Listed in order of performance and price
Shure E2C
Shure E3C
Eytomotic ER4P

are pretty much the only things you need to look at, ER4P are by far the best if you have the cash. If not E2C/E3C would be good. If you are really really really low on cash Sennheiser MX400/MX500/MX450/MX550 are good buds. But I don't suggest going lower then Sure E2C.

I have the e2c's and like them quite a bit. Paid around US$70. I'd love to try some even higher end buds, though, to see what I'm missing.

I use the same too or a very similar product and they are great.
