microdrive?
I'm fixin to buy an axim x50 mid and I have a couple of interviews for school that i have to conduct. I was thinkin about recording them w/ the axim vs. a digital recorder because the ones that i really like don't have a PC link. My question today is 'do i need a microdrive to save the recordings on?' How big are the recordings for like 20 minutes. Does anyone even use the voice recording function and a microdrive? I would also store my iPhoto library on it (yes, i'm a mac user).

The built in recorder uses, I believe, uncompressed .wav.

Check out Resco Audio Recorder. It can record in wav/mp3/raf/ogg/spx and dramatically increase available recording space. They have a demo available.

You could test out different settings to find the lowest bit rate acceptable for your interviews then it will tell you how much time you have available for those settings.

Resco Audio Recorder is great, i have a review up on http://Reviews.Schrags.com

for regular speech it has the spx mode that makes it so you can fit TONS of recording time into a small file. You then can convert it to a wav or other normal file via the desktop app so you can play it in all your regular desktop programs

I tried Resco, and wasn't very happy with the results. Thank goodness for trial periods. I'd suggest giving it a chance, however, there are a lot of people that like it.

I suggest the freeware program called NoteM, which records at various audio settings but in mp3 mode.
