x50v + PalmOne Universal Keyboard
OK, so I've pretty much made up my mind to buy the PalmOne universal keyboard (part # 3169WW).

Can you guys tell me how the x50v fits on the rest at the top of the keyboard? As you probably know, the x50v is round on the back. I'm worried that it will slip out and hit the floor.

http://www.palmfocus.com/palmukbpics.htm

For those of you wondering about keyboards, I chose this one for a few reasons:

-IR uses less x50v battery than bluetooth
-The PalmOne is slightly larger and has one more row of keys than the Think Outside. I am a touch typist and I want as large of a keyboard as I can get so I can type quickly.
-IR keyboards are quite a bit cheaper than bluetooth. It's more than $40 differential between them. (48 and change for the Palm IR, $91 for the Think Outside Bluetooth)
-From what I can gather in the other threads on here, it's a well-built unit. I'd like this keyboard to last me a good long while. I also like that it has broad compatibility--that bodes well for future upgrade cycles.

Thanks for your help, fellas. And if anybody has any PICTURES of how the x50v sits on it as well as a description, that would earn bonus karma for you.

Looked at the keyboard on the website you linked above, since the IR port on the AXIM is on the top of the device, how will this work with the keyboard if the Axim lays on its side?

Landscape mode is an option for the x50v as it runs Windows Mobile 2003SE. Also I think that the resting base thing pivots so that portrait mode would work...?

No, it does not pivot, but the infrared sensor pivots at 180 degrees. So portrait or landscape mode is available.

The base is larger than the top and has a rubber coating. It also has a small metal resting bar that can be pulled out, so if the X50v is larger than the PALM units, it can still rest on the base with no problem.

I own a PALM keyboard, and I look forward to using it with my soon-to-arrive X50v.

If you need any other information about the keyboard, I will be happy to answer them.

Thanks, everybody.

Is nobody going for Bonus Karma? I'd love to see a pic of the x50v in action with the Palmone Universal Keyboard.

Give me a day or two; I should be receiving my X50v tomorrow. I'll post pictures as soon as I can.

Hey, thanks man. I'm looking forward to it. I went ahead and bought this evening--I hope to get it by early next week. I ended up paying $45.98 shipped to my door for a new-in-the-box unit. These things are going crazy high on eBay. Amazon sells for something like $48 and change. Buy.com is about the same. Auctions closed on eBay today for $50-$60 shipped.

I have the X50v and the Palm Universal (mine is a rebadged Think Outside from Expansys - needed the TO driver) and it works really well. Not the latest version from Palm but it cost alot less and it does the job. I don't have any pics at the moment but if you're interest PM me and I'll see what I can do.

Finally
Here are the pictures, as promised

As you can see, the Axim is still in the case (a PDAir), and the keyboard works anyway, so the IR connection is great.

I have nothing but positive comments for this keyboard.

Wow! Thanks for the pictures!

It looks pretty interesting. I kind of wish that there was a more secure way to affix the PDA to the keyboard. Here is my idea, and maybe you can give me some feedback on it:

I've always been really hesitant to do anything "drastic" like put velcro on the back of my PDA. However, when I bought 1100 mah my Mugen battery from Lion Battery, it came with a spare battery door (don't ask me why). Maybe I could put some velcro on it and the keyboard...?

What do you think about this idea?

I'm not sure it would work. The IR stand runs all along the middle of the stand, and it cas pivot, so the velcro would move along with it. Of course, if you always work in Landscape mode with your keyboard, the velcro would work.

Unless you drop the keyboard, there is very little risk of the Axim falling off. The stand has an angle of about 45 degrees.

Good thread. How are people still liking the combination? I love the separate row of number keys, but I'd love THIS keyboard in Bluetooth.

Still deciding...
