I just purchased a neww dell x50 and was wondering if there is a compatible compactflash LAN card out there that is not wireless for the new dells. It has windows mobile 2003 second edition.

Yup. That's the same one that I've been checking into. Looks like it is the cheapest one around.

The lowest I've seen it advertised for is just over $40, but newegg.com has it "out of stock" for just over $30. I'm holding out. :D

Purchase an ethernet CF card and connect to a wired network after installing the appropriate drivers. I first tested my card on my Linksys router, but also used it to connect in a hotel room with high speed internet access. I'd prefer to use wifi, but sometimes it just ain't available!

Yup. That's exactly what I'm thinking about--particularly when I'm travelling and the hotel room has ethernet, but not 802.11b. I'm looking forward to never carrying a laptop with me again. 6 lbs for a laptop vs. 6 ounces for an Axim! :D

Isn't a cheap 802.11b router cheaper?

Possibly. Most of those are larger than a CF card, which makes them less desirable for toting around. I considered one of the portable wireless routers (e.g. ASUS), but decided to go with the CF.
