Maximum Compact Flash Card Capacity
Guys, I have just taken delivery of my nice new shiny x50v....I was wondering what the maximum capacity of Compact Flash the Axim will take, I am considering keeping music on it.

I dpn't think it has a maximum capacity. I use a 4GB microdrive for music and movies. Stay away from 2.2GB though, no one has been able to get them to work.

I see you're in the UK...

dabs.com has the Lexar 4Gb and 8Gb CF cards listed:

http://dabs.com/uk/ProductView?quicklinx=38LS
http://dabs.com/uk/ProductView?quicklinx=38LX

and also the Kingston 4Gb:

http://dabs.com/uk/ProductView?quicklinx=3GMJ

I think the Kingston may be Type I, while the Lexars are Type II.

There is really no maximum capacity. The axim supports both the FAT16 and FAT32 file systems so it can easily handle 4gb and 8gb cards along with the new pretec 12gb one

For example, the FAT32 system will support up to 32gb if formated in windows. (but if you format with a dos prompt, you can get more space out of bigger drives)

.
The only limit to the size of your CF card is the size of your wallet

That is a very good point considering the 12gb card is $9999

but also remember that 1gb cards at one point were something of the future and priced high like that...over time they will come down and we will be looking at the 30gb cards as devices use more memory

There is a limit to what the OS can handle. Fortunately (Or should that be unfortunately?) there is no CF card even close to hitting that number.

Anyone know offhand what the max win2003's max size?

I know its high as there have been reports of some people rigging up big 60gb Hard Drives to PPC 2002 Devices

(if you search around here and on google you can find some of the articles, but most included lots of DIY computer parts to make it work)

Glad to see that larger cards will work. DELL CS insists that 2Gb is the "absolute maximum" size a CF it will take...

Without 48 bit LBA, it's 137GB. I forgot what's the limit for 48 bit LBA, but I recall that it's way above what could be achieved with any current technology.

Has anyone run across a particular brand that didn't work with the X50v? I've heard of SD cards being a little flakey and didn't know if the same was true for CF cards...

Who's got a 4GB for cheap? (cheap being a relative term)
