crystal case
After recently ordering the magnesium case for the x50, I just found out (minutes ago) that the crystal (clear) case is now available from proporta.com. That is absolutely my favorite case and so I just placed an order. They don't have a picture of them on the website but they have pictures on other pda's and they are all similar. I have used the clear case before on an ipaq and I love it. Some don't think it adds enough protection but for me it is good enough and I love how you can see the screen without needing to open the case...plus it is super slim and light. Anyways, I will sell my brand new, barely used magnesium case soon if anyone is interested in that one at a reduced price. Good luck in case hunting! Mike

Do the crystal cases show scratches much? That looks like a noce way to show off one's pride-and-joy. It would be terrible to walk around with a marred-up case diminishing the beauty of an x50v.

Cradle
Do you know if the Axim will fit in its cradle when it is in the crystal case? I gave up the Rhino case in favor of the Sena because I got tired of taking the Axim out of its case to charge and sync.

Here is a link....

http://www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05...092&t_mode=des

Unless they drastically changed the design (I am basing this off my using the crystal case for the ipaq 1715) the crystal case will not work in the cradle. You can charge it with the cable, as there was a slot on the botton. There were cut outs for all accessories (headphone, etc). The screen does scratch a bit, but not terribly. I had mine for about 2 or 3 months, and I do everything with my pda including taking to the gym and running to listen to mp3's. If you look closely you can see some minor scratching, but it never affected how well I could see the screen. Another great thing I learned is that if you program your hard buttons right, you can do a lot without opening the case much. Hope that answers some questions, let me know if you have any more...By the way I do not work for Proporta, I just like their clear case and am just passing on some info. Mike

No hardcase will fit in the cradle. Period.

But no screen protection? That is the second reason I want a carrying case for the Axim. One is drop protection, the other is screen protection when I am not using it! This case does not do it.

This case does offer screen protection. There is a clear poly carbonate plastic layer over the screen. Why do you think there is none? You have the option of opening it, but the screen protection is there for when it is in your pocket, etc. Granted if you drop it, probably not the protection of a metal case. But it is not like the silicone skin case where the screen is completely exposed at all times. Mike

People need to stop asking weather or not a hard case will fit in the cradle... if you have a full layer of metal or plastic inbetween your axim and the cradle, it is not going to connect properly.

i just placed an order for the crystal x50v case. when i go to the status page, it shows sold out for the item. Not sure if that's a technical glitch, or if they don't have any in stock yet. Either way my silicon case from proporta ordered late last month still hasn't come in yet...

I ordered one yesterday and it didn't say anything about being sold out. But I will let you know when I get it, last time I ordered from them it took about 1 week to arrive, but not too bad since they are in Europe. Oh and now they do have a picture posted of the case with the x50 in it if you want to see....

http://www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05...092&t_mode=des

The one I had for the ipaq opened to the side instead of over the top, but either way it can fold flat against the back. Mike

That looks pretty neat and it's only $20.

Does it fit in the cradle catalyst?

Oh you are right, it says on my order confirmation:

This item is out of stock. We will ship it to you as soon as it is available.
Estimated arrival date is:2005-04-14

So I guess we got to wait about a month. That was sorta deceiving since it is a new product for the x50, I would of rather them have stated "taking preorders" or something like they have for the magnesium case. But anyways glad I have the magnesium case for now. Mike
