Boxwave - ARGH! - Don't wash 'em

I recently order 3 boxwave screen protectors, thinking that if I got dust stuck to the screen protector the first try, I could wash the protector and try again. Unfortunately, once I followed the directions on the back of the package to wash the protector, I noticed that one corner of the adhesive came off!

I had to open another package, considering I had ordered the 3 pack, and apply another screen protector.

What a pain in the butt, if they really don't react well to water, then fine, at least state that on the packaging!

I can only hope that this one won't leave the adhesive junk on my axim screen when I'm finally done with it.

The best way to re-use them is to buy some packaging clear tape (or the like) and lay it on the screen protector (the part that faces the screen). Now just peel the tape off and you will see it will be brand new ready to use again. You can do it twice if it's pretty dirty....

Thanks for the advice, I have a feeling I'll be doing that when it's time to change the screen protectors again.

Here are some pictures of the screen protector minus the adhesive.

I have had mine off and there isnt really 'adhesive' on it that you could peel off. are you sure it wasn't the backing? Or did you have it on already and then remove it? there were some people that thought that the backing was the actual protector until they looked again.

Unfortunately, I didn't align it correctly with the screen the first time, after I peeled off the backing. When I pulled it off to try again, the thing just attracted dust, not exactly unusual mind you. So I figured, ok, I'd just wash it like the instructions said. Lo and behold part of the sticky stuff came off in my hand. My camera might not be the best, but you can see that one corner is different than the rest of the protector, thats the area where the sticky stuff came off. I still have the protective backing stuff I pulled off (with the tab) in the packaging. Is that what you're reffering to?

Sorry for the confusion with calling it adhesive, it's actually just whatever provides the "stickyness" of the screen protector. The side that attracts the lint/dust/ect. I believe it's actually silicon? Either way, that part peeled off, so a corner of the protector is without any ability to cling to the screen.

Does that make more sense?

You have a defective screen protector. Send it back for a new one. Those things aren't cheap and I hear BoxWave is really good about exchanges for defective screen protectors. It can't hurt to try.

A replacement that I received from boxwave actually arrived in a similar condition. The corner of the protector was missing its sticky. I sent it back for another advance replacement.

It certainly shouldn't come off when washing, as they recommend the procedure. I would advise against using tape on the sticky side as this could remove the tacky substance.

I washed the crap out of mine and it looks fine...

I use a needle to take mine off. It is really easy to work with now. I have washed it several times because of various resons. (use your imagination, I have a 2 year old boy!)

Try washing with soap and drying with a hair dryer or lint-free cloth.

So no tape eh? I'm glad washing it worked for some of you, I guess that mine was just defective. Do you all know if boxwave actually does replace screen protectors?

Also, what confused me was the fact that it said to put the protector back on the axim even when there was water on it, does that seep into the sides of the axim casing and mess with the digitizer?

No. They offered me a discount on my replacement ClearTouch.

It's a good product, but the website is disceptive (sp?) at its ease of wash and re-usability. Perhaps better instructions on how to apply it would be good. Once they make the protector for the 50v, I'll take some photos of how I've put it on. My first time putting it on my own X3i, however, was a disaster. However I've done three other Axims since and it's been good.

Any tips for applying these things would be much appreciated. I just ordered a ClearTouch Crystal for my x50v (first PDA/PPc).

Just make sure you leave a tiny gap around the edges of the screen. If you get the screen protector accidentally pushed under the edge of the screen on the top, you can have big problems until you remove it and put it on again.
