Is a Microdrive different compared to a Compact Flash Card?
Hi all,

I'm pretty new to this stuff. I've searched the forums and it seems that the 4 GB Microdrive from Hitachi (lowest price by far) is compatible with the Axim X50v.

But I wonder what is the difference to a normal Compact Flash Card (most of em are much more expensive). Is it slower or uses more power?

Someone said the OEM Version does not work but the retail. How do I know the difference?
And how do these versions differ?

Thanks in advance

Yes, there is a difference. A microdrive is a hard drive, and has moving parts. Thus, it uses more power and is more fragile. A regular CF card is solid state, and is more durable, faster, and more power efficient.

Thanks for the fast reply.
Is it safe to use one or should I rather switch to a normal CF Card? I think there are some 1-2 Gb available

It really depends on many factors. Having used both, I would recommended a CF over a microdrive for most. It really is up to the individual users preferance on battery life, budget, size reqired/desired, durability, etc.
