Innopocket Magnesium vs. Rhinoskin
I received my Innopocket magnesium case today. Since I already owned a Rhinoskin (which work well 3 weeks ago when it launched off the top of my car at 40 mph), I thought I'd offer my impressions of the difference between the two.

Fit / Finish: The Innopocket is very sleek and well finished. I like the black better than the silver of the Rhinoskin. It fit much better to the shape of the x50v, and feels smaller and lighter in the hand. The form of the Innopocket is more curved, while the Rhinoskin was very sqaurish. I like the rubber strips on the Rhinoskin - the Innopocket is more "slippery".

Protection: Probably a toss up. I like that the hinge on the Innopocket covers the SD card, which will prevent an SD card from being lost, but I like the closure mechanism on the Rhinoskin better - the Innopocket doesnt feel as "closed" as the Rhinoskin. I'm concerned it could pop open in a bag, for example. The Innopocket does feel stronger - the Rhinoskin feels like it could dent, but the Innopocket feels tougher.

Ease of use: I love the flip over lid of the Innopocket. It is a bittle bit more trouble to open or close, but once opened, it is MUCH easier to use than the book-style opening of the Rhinoskin.

That's it...

Just wondering. I ordered mine with the normal $6 shipping and i got an email saying that it shipped and all but i did not get a tracking #. Did anyone else not get a tracking number and how long did it take to get it through this route?

I ordered mine late on the 7th and it was at my house on the 12th using the normal $6.00 air mail shipping. You only get a tracking number with Fedex. I'm sure you'll have it soon.

Damager: Good observations I agree with you on everything except I thought my Rhino was slippery and I don't feel that way about the Innopocket. Although it's been about a year since I got rid of my Rhino and at my age it's hard to remember yesterday. I used the Rhino for about 10 minutes with my x3i and didn't like it at all.

I'd recommend the Magnesium case over the Rhino.

My only complaint is the latching mechanism - not as secure as I'd like to see. Otherwise, I'm very happy with the Innopocket.

If I am using battery 2200mA, which slighly bigger than 1100mA, can Axim X50v fit into Magnesium case?

I don't think so. It fits very snug with the standard battery if it's even a little bigger you have no chance.

I ordered mine and did not check the FedEx block and got an email without a tracking number also. Unless the FedEx block is checked I think it comes USPS. They do not issue tracking numbers. I am hoping mine comes in the next couple of days.

Just got mine yesterday.
So far I like it. It is true that the latch could use some work but overall it not bad. I never purchased the Rhinoskin because I didn't like the the shinyness of it.

I stand corrected.............

Now that I've gotten a good look at the case. The problem that I have, is that they knew there was an issue with the paint job on my case and they sent it to me anyway. You can see where they took a black magic marker to cover the blimishes on the case. It still look decent if you glance at it. Altimately, I don't think it such a big deal enough to fight them on it with the credit card company. But I believe the quality control is something to be improved with this company.

New x50v owner here...and now shopping for screen protectors and a case. I've pretty much decided on one of the two cases in this thread, but I have a question for you guys. Do most of you use your PPc in landscape or portrait mode? This is my first PPc/PDA, so I'm not sure which way is best, but I switched to landscape mode today to test out IE and I left the Axim like that for the past day. Its kinda neat having the wide screen. In landscape mode, I think the Rhinoskin cover would work best, opening like a book. But if you view the Axim up and down (like normal, I guess?) then the Innopocket might be better.

Does that make sense? Any comments? I guess you could get use to holding the case whenever way you had to, so this may not be an issue.

Thanks!
Aaron

Hello Aaron,

IMO, the Innopocket case is better because the cover flips completely behind. This way, you can vew the axim either in portrait or landscape mode and the cover is never in the way.

As far as I'm concerned the purpose of the case isn't to look pretty (although it does) - it is to protect the PPC. I've got a tiny bit of black being removed in the crease where the lid meets the case, but is that really bothering you?

PDAAddict,

Thanks for the info. It's hard to see from the photos that it goes all the way around. It looked like it could possibly stop 10-15 degrees short of the full circle. I think that definitely made up my mind. I'm ordering tomorrow - I just hope they start shipping again asap.

Oh, and just for clarification. These cases protect the PDA as a whole correct? i.e. there's still a need for a screen protector, AFAIK, true?

Aaron
