Help choose keyboard...
I have decided to get a bluetooth keyboard. I run my own construction type company and use the axim on site and in my truck lots and decided the BT is the way to go for cramped quarters.

I use Acces through a remote session to my desk top and spreadsheets lots. I have narrowed it to the think outside bt and one with 5 rows of keys like this one http://www.suntekstore.com/bluetooth...-axim-x50.html .

My parents are going to visit my Brother in San Fransico for a couple of week and Amazon has a great deal on the think outside one. I like in Canada. Question is how do the people who have the Think Outside deal with not have a row for numbers? Is it a pain?

The BT mouse is also on sale for $47. I don't think I will use it much in the truck or field. However sometimes things like this are the ones that later you wonder how you ever got along with out it.

Any and all opinions are very appreciated. I need to order right away so my parents can act as "Mules" getting it across the border duty free.

My brother purchased a TO BT keyboard on my recommendation. I set it up for him and he's very happy with it but I noticed some issues... namely with the lask of a dedicated number key row. Let me tell you in advance, if you have to enter a good deal of numbers you'll want to reconsider as I found it annoying and cumbersome to keep holding down the FN key, of there is only ONE on the left side that controls the number keys, so it's a complete hassle for a large amount of numbers. A number here and there isn't a problem but it can be since you mentioned dealing with Excel/Spreedsheets.

I opted to go with the Freedom BT keyboard. I have an X30H and it just doesn't seem to want to connect (I've been at it for almost 2 days now), but I heard that it works fine with the X50/v.

The Freedom BT keyboard has a dedicated number row but you sacrific a bit of real estate as the keys aren't as big or widely spaced as the TO BT keyboard's but something had to give in order to fit the number row in there.

I can't comment on it's actual usage as I haven't gotten it to connect to my X30H but it feels pretty solid. It's a decent BT keyboard with a number row. You can find it being sold under different banners like Proporta and Javo. If you go directly to www.freedominput.com you can check it out yourself.

As for the TO BT keyboard? I would have gotten it had it not been for the missing number row wish I think as a mistake on TO's part... but I might be forced to get the TO keybaord if I can't get this Freedom keyboard to connect soon.

Good luck.

I agree with FallN and PPT. I really like my TOtB BT keyboard, but it is a royal pain when I have to type a lot of numbers or characters such as &*$#. There is one Fn key for the numbers and another for the characters, both of which share the top row of the keyboard (i.e., QUERTY....). I suppose a person could get proficient with such a setup, but I'm not sure I'd want to spend the time doing so.

That's what I was thinking. If I'm in Excel, I'm typing mostly numbers, so I just use the Num Lock...

Fair question! I rarely type numbers only, so that strategy doesn't help me a lot. My biggest hassle is when I'm typing combinations of of numbers, characters and regular text.

For numbers alone, you are correct!

this is what happened to me alot when i first got the TOBT keyboard.
i am a law student so i have to type in relevant sections of various acts. say i wanna type s45(1). i type 's', then left fn+'r'. then left fn+'t' to get '45'. then instead of pressing 't' i accidentally typed 'y' instead, giving me s46. so instinctively i type 'backspace' to get rid of the wrong number, but forgetting to let go of the left fn. now left fn+'backspace' = OFF. so poof...my x50v goes off. after swearing and fumbling for the power button and waiting for BT to connect again, i type 'backspace' and then left fn+'t' to get my '5'. then let go of left fn and press right fn+'o' to get '('...and so on. i m sure u get the idea...

I like my TO keyboard but if I had known of the other one I would have got it instead. I like the row for numbers.

Just so that everyone knows, I sent ThinkOutside an e-mail back in Dec. (if I remember correctly) saying that the only reason I wasn't buying their BT keyboard was because it doesn't have a dedicated number row. They actually sent me a reply and said they were planning on releasing a 5 row BT keyboard in the first half of '05. I can post the response if anyone is interested.
