Car Charger problems
Hi all,

I have a dell car charger for my Axim X50 which i purchased when i got the Axim, about 2 or so weeks ago i think. Anyway, i just tried out the car charger tonight and it does not charge the axim at all, as the light on the power button does not come on. However if i remove the charger from the lighter socket in the car slowly the light does flicker, but i can not get it to stay on. I have checked the fuse inside and that is good to go. Anyone have any suggestions?

Try changing the Processor speed.
I had the same problem with another car charger. The axim only charged when it was off. I then changed the Processor frequency to the minimum (208 I think) and now it charges and I can use it at the same time.

I have it set to auto, shouldnt it automatically go to the lowest when it is off?

You mean that even if the Axim is off it doesn't charge it?
If it is the case then I suggest you send it back to Dell for a replacement.
My first car cable from Boxwave didn't charge the Axim even when it was off and they proposed to echange it. The new one works perfect.

Yes that is exactly what I meant. I contacted dell and I should have a replacement on friday. And i guess they want the other one back so they are sending something to return it in.

If you are getting some flickering then you know that power is making it into the cord at some point.

Do you have a Multi Meter you can use to verify your cigarette adapter is getting power at all points? Is the inside dirty? If it is dirty, use some alcohol on a ball of cotton to clean it. Just make sure you first disconnect the negative terminal on the car battery so you don't get a nasty shock.

I also found out that I can only charge the battery with the Axim turned on if the battery is at least charged at around 80%. Below that threshold I can only charge with the device turned off.
