Lobster Mount Review....

I just bought a Lobster Mount for my X50v, and i am truly impressed. I plan to use it for gps in my car. I was alittle nervous about putting my X50 in some of the other car mounts i found online, but this thing is great. The company states up to 2 pounds of weight can be held with this suction mount. It is also made of powder coated steel which is very nice, and the cradle holds the X50 very securely. Check them out at www.lobstermount.com. I give them a very high recomendation, excellent product.http://www.lobstermount.com

I made my own mount. When I bought the Pharos GPS unit, it came with a backing to attach the Axim to the car vents. After that proved stupid (unit was too heavy for the vents to stay in position!), I went to Home Depot and built my own for approx $3.00. I bought a small pbc pipe, pvc coupler and put it all together.

I'll have to take a pic of it after work. It's nifty and fits right in my cup holder in my truck.

Until then ...

I found that inserting a little screw (just inserting, not screwing in) beneath the bottom louvre of the vent stopped it from being pulled down by the weight off the cradle+unit.

Whoopsie! Forgot all about the pics. I'll take some tonite after I get home from work.

For some reason the vent mount simply wouldn't stay up... It kept sagging.

More to come.

Edit: As promised... here are the pics.

Pic 1
Pic 2
Pic 3
Pic 4
Pic 5
Pic 6

Pic 1 is of the mount in the cup holder.

Pic 2 is the same, just zoomed out more (don't mind the mess ... it's been cold out ).

Pic 3 is of the mount removed from the cup holder, along with my Axim in Rhinoskin case and a piece of material to protect the case from the screws of the mount.

Pic 4 is of my Axim in the mount. The mount really only works with the Rhinoskin case since there is a hole drilled to allow the beltclip screw to slide in place. This keeps the Axim from flying off the mount (prototype number 2 heh .. ).

Pic 5 is of my Axim mount with my own XM Radio mount. I was rushing so the cables got in the way of the Axim, causing it to tilt in the mount. Normally I just move the cables out of the way.

Pic 6 is just a different angle of pic 5.

Let me know what you all think!
