incredibly cheap spare batteries
I've bought an x50v from the US without any extras as it was much cheaper than the best price Dell Australia could offer.

But I wanted a spare battery, so I spoke to Dell Aust yesterday. I can't believe how cheap they are offering them for!!! The 1100mhz costs $A14.30, including shipping. That's about $US11. Why are they so cheap???? It's so strange because the actual x50v is massively more expensive in Australia than other places.

I'd like to see where you are seeing this. On Dell's website? You spoke to them. Is that price along with an axim purchase or alone?

It's only at www.dell.com.au - are you in Australia?

You can buy them without an Axim purchase over the phone but you can only see them listed online when you go into customise an Axim.

I got some spares 2 months ago for $13.00 each.

Did you buy the 2 spare batteries in the US? How much was shipping?
Thanks for your help.

Goldengreek,

Did you have any problem getting the warranty transfered?

No, I'm in Australia and it seems to be only for Dell Australia purchases.

All seems OK so far. The ebay seller (clearcost) has been amazingly co-operative to this stage. He has transferred the warranty on-line for me. Here's the link, just so you can see what is required.

It's pretty straight-forward.

One of the main issues of buying something like this from the US is potential customs duty. I've tried a couple of things to get around this, so I'll let you know how it goes.

I just rang the Dell Australia office and that's what they quoted me for an 1100 - $A14.30 ($US11). The 2200 is $A60 (about $US45). The shipping is free for both (but only within Australia obviously).

1100mhz batteries, eh? That's faster than my Axim!

Seriously though ... $11 US for an 1100mAh (mili-ampere hours not megahertz) battery is great. I'll have to contact my friend in Australia.
