Compact Flash Network Adapter
Will a Compact Flash Network Adapter connect my X50v in a hotel where high speed internet is offered? Currently I am using a Ambicom dialup modem and it is very slow. I would like to get something faster. Any recomendations would be greatly appreciated.

Many hotels offer wifi these days - so if you have wifi in your X50 you're good to go. IF the hotel has only wired broadband then you could use a CF Ethernet adaptor (Trendnet make one, there are many on the market) or get an Ethernet to Wireless bridge, such as the Asus, 3Com, Dlink devices.

thanks Howard. the bummer is I needed to get one today. Officemax, Office Depot, and Walmart do not have them. Radio Shack might, I need to call them. They are all we have here locally...

I just called the Hotel, (mariott) and low and behold, they actually have wireless there. But, the service is stsn. Is this a free service, or do I have to have an account? I asked the hotel phone person and she had no idea.

Hey, DS! I have the Trendnet CF Ethernet card (view my pda) and it works great. I just stayed in a couple of Marriotts over the last month and they had both wireless and wired. Since I figured that I would use the wired more, I went exclusively with it. The wifi was not free. I don't know if the $9.95/day fee for phone and wired internet included the wifi or not. Frankly the signal was very weak in the meeting rooms and only seemed to be halfway strong in the lobby.

Thanks everyone, looks like modem connection for me...

I am going to order the trendnet tonight. I am fed up with the dialup speeds, and wifi is not what I expected it to be. There just has not been any free hot spots that are worth anything...

Thanks,
Yes, that's the one. I see someone posted a link. I didn't actually check the transfer speed, but it was much better than a modem.
