Power Brick
Ok this is going to sound strange but hey its working for me so far. I want to say I am not sure how this will work under all power conditions I have not spent much time screwing around with it. I do NOT know if it will work with a dead battery but its working with a partly charged battery and the axim being on but the screen brightness on lowest setting and processer at auto. But it did not work with a 84% charged battery and the screen up and the processer up.

Last thursday the new Sony video game system PSP came out. The system power connecter just happens to be the same size as the connecter off the wall plug for the x50 and puts out 5v. Now I am not saying use the wall plug for the axim but hey it does put out 2Amps the real reason for this post is a company called Pelican puts out a product called Power Brick for the PSP odd thing is it does say 3.6v 3600mA on the side but the thing really puts out 5v (about when I checked with a multimeter before plugging into my Axim it was at 5.2v) now I think the reason it lists 3.6v 3600mAh is because the internal battery in the PSP is 3.6v 1800mAh and they advertise the Power Brick as being capable of charging the unit twice.

The Power Brick costs $19.99 and so far its charging my axim x50v. Now I am going to do some more testing with this because it is not going to work in all conditions as I have already found out. I am not sure just how high a current this thing can produce as I can't find real specs anywhere. I just wanted to post what I had found out so far and really if anyone has both a PSP and a x50 its an idea for a great power bank. What I plan on trying to do tonight is discharge an extended battery then try it out and see what happens. If you don't have a PSP don't run out just yet to purchase one of these but after some more testing I will post my results and you can make up your own mind on if its worth it.

I wish more companys would release real specs for their products but the great part is its possible we now have one more source for power accesories for the x50 the biggest problem is you still need one of those little adapters to plug these in and the x50 can have a HUGE current draw and some of the accessories being designed for a differant system might not be able to keep up.

I saw this powerbrick last night and thought I might get it. I do have the PSP(and I must say it is amazing) and if this will charge both my PSP and my X50V I will be extremely happy.

I just picked up one of these last night, haven't had a chance to test it out yet. The Pelican car charger works with the X50v, though.

This is being done with the extended battery in the axim and it was at a 19% charge so it should be pulling about the highest charge current it is capable of.

With the screen brightness up and the processer at maximum the Power Brick can't keep up and the screen starts flashing.

With the screen brightness one notch up from off and the processer at power-saving it was almost able to keep up I had set the screen brightness set so if it started to use the battery it would switch to max brightness so I could tell easily by the screen flashing if it was having problems. As long as I was not using the axim (but it was on) it seemed to be able to supply enough current the second I touched the screen it started flashing though. Before I started trying to use the axim the battery did go from 19 to 21% charge.

Unit off with the extended battery at 21% after 5 minutes it had a 25% charge so it looks like it works if the unit is off.

So in the end it looks like it should provide a good extender if your battery is already charged or you just need to charge the battery. I would not use it if I was looking for something to charge and use the axim at the same time. I was using the extended battery and the regular battery does have a lower charge current so it MIGHT (keyword might) be possible to use the unit and charge it at the same time if you use the 1100 mAh battery.

I still do not know what will occur when the battery in the Power Brick starts getting low since this would be charging the unit using the higher current pins on the axim I believe you should not have a problem with the power feeding back into the Power Brick and draining your axim battery. As a warning this unit is designed to be charged using the PSP power supply that is a 5v power supply while the axim has a 5.4v power supply I do not know if any damage will be done to the unit by using the axim power supply.

PLEASE keep the following in mind when buying x50v charging accessories.
The x50v requires 630mA to charge the 1100mAh battery and 925mA to charge the 2200mAh battery while USB specs say a USB port can provide at max 500mA.

Nope - not for me, anyway. With the standard battery, even with the screen at the lowest setting, processor at 208 and doing absolutely nothing, I immediately got screen flicker. Works fine with the unit off, though, like you said.

I tried the car charger it charged my axim as long as it was off but the screen flickered if I had it on.
