Can a Type I CF card be used DIRECTLY in X50V (i.e w/o adapters) ?
The X50V specification says it accepts Type II CompactFlash cards. Does anyone know if I can also use a Type I CF card directly in the X50V ... without using any kind of adapters ?

Cool ! Thanks very much !

is there any special advantage to using the Type II cards though ? Like power consumption wise are the Type II cards better or worse than the Type I cards ?

I think the bigger cards (4GB and above) only come in Type II, but hypothetically, if the same sized card was available in both Type I and Type II will there be a reason to go for the Type II ?

Type II cards are microdrives.
Type I cards are regular CF cards (with Flash memory, no moving parts)

In fact the difference I/II is only the thicknes of the card. Type I cards are 3.3mm thick, while Type II are 5.0mm thick. Both are 43mm in width and 36 mm in height.

A Type I card will fit into a Type II slot or adapter, while the opposite is naturally not the case (Unless you have a big hammer)
Hope this helps.

Thanks ! That makes sense. I was looking at the CF cards on sale at Dell right now, and saw that they called out the Kingston 4GB CF card as type II ... so I was confused.

This is obviously an error, because when I look at the detail descriptions, it shows up as a Type I card.

Thanks again !

No problem. By the way, I forgot to say, but Axims have a type II slot. That's why when you put a regular type I card you have an annoying gap where dust can enter... Anyway.
