Sena case
I'm new to the whole PDA scene, actually I only just ordered the x50 couple of days ago, and its my first PDA

I've digged around the forums for info on accessories etc, and this is more for Sena case owners..

Judging by the photos:
http://www.senacases.com/catalog/DEL...p-1-c-313.html

The padding the case gives seems pretty limited on all sides, though the cases themselves are extremely cool...is it just poor angles in the photos that gives the impression of thin padding? I'm a uni student so the PDA would probably spend quite a bit of time in my backpack!

This is a beautiful case. Too bad I already bought one 2 months ago... My case is Belkin's and it has storage space for stuff, but this Sena one is more practical as it can be used with one hand and you don't have to remove the PDA from its case to activesync (something that is not possible with mine).

I love my Sena case. got the red/black one.

No the padding isnt much. its 1 layer of leather on teh sides etc. and the front and back is like 2 layers with probably a piece of cardboard on the between the front one.

But These cases arnt made to protect the case from hard impacts. I Think they are made to prevent any scratches or marks.

Great case you wont be dissapointed

I my Sena cases (have one for all of my PPCs). I keep them in my purse with no problem. A backpack full of books is another matter. I would seriously consider a hard case, such as the Rhinoskin. I also have one of these and it is great .

Yeah, I would consider getting a Rhinoskin too...if it's going to be in a backpack most of the time.

Thanks for the advice everyone....it would seem one of the hard cases is a better choice for my uses.

I'm curious thought, since the flap on the Rhinoskin cases open sideways, wouldn't it feel awkward to get a grip around the PDA with the flap open 180 degrees (or even if it opens the entire way right around to the back)?

The Sena case has more protection than my old cover and offers far better usefulness then the Axim slipcase. I am not going to test this out, but given the padding of leather on the front and the back, it is my belief that it will drop only on those sides and not on it's side. This is true for a cat that always lands feet down, and a slice of bread always lands butter side down.

Actually the front flap does overlap enough that it would help in a fall, and the top is well covered, so the chances are only 1 out of 4 a dropped Ax will land on its less protected bottom!

I agree that the Sena is NOT the best case for a backpack. It's a great case--in fact it's probably my favorite case. (I have sampled five different leather cases for the X50/X50v.)

For a nice leather case, the Piel Frama would probably offer more protection.

Otherwise, the magnesium or aluminum cases are probably your best choice. The Magnesium with the flip cover is probably your best bet, especially since they've supposedly fixed the issues with the paint and the faulty latch.

Good luck!

I thought it would be awkward too as I had only used flip top cases in the past. It really is not that bad. I'm right handed, if that makes any difference.

Thanks for all the input! I've taken the dive and ordered a Magnum case, mainly because of its top flap rather than side like the Rhinoskin. Its getting FedEx'ed to down under, so maybe a week or so. Cheers all

Just an update everyone, both the Magnum case and the PDA have arrived. The Magnum case is extremely light and a very very good fit for the PDA - very awesome! The only thing I have about the case is that the latching mechanism on the flap is plastic, so I'm worried about wear and tear...
