Dell 2200mAh Li-ion Extended Battery review
Here are the comparative tests on the 1.100mAh and the 2.200mAh batteries (with some shots). Thanks to Gnam for the translation.
The results:
Pros:
- Battery life is more than doubled (5 hours and 56 minutes > 2 hours and 38 minutes).
Cons:
- A perceptible increase in size and weight.
Ciao.

P.s. Thanks to all for the large amount of tips discovered here.

After having used the extended battery since November I would have to say that the use far outways the size. I mostly use the regular battery day to day because I do not needed the extended battery time. But the times when I need the extended use I can not do without it.

I have got an extended battery myself. To be honest with you I wouldn't have bougth it if I knew it would stick out like that... I asked the (useless) saleswoman in Malaysia whether it would flush with the back of pda... obviously she didn't know what I mean, and said yes.

Now that I've got one however I can't live without it if I know I'll be playing with it all day. All I need now is the propota titanium case in extended bat format...

I can't believe how ugly it looks when it sticks out. I never thought it would stick out THAT much. Its almost twice the size of the unit from the looks of it. Maybe I'll just live with two 1100 batteries instead. Then again, 6 hours is quite tempting compared to the petty 1.5-2 im getting now

i was actually just thinking about the size - do they give you another backing for the axim with the purchase of a battery?

i mean - they have to right? how else would it stay in there?

Yes, you get a new battery cover. It only covers the battery, so there is a bulge on the bottom 50% of the back case, the top half stays the same size.

I have the Piel Frama extended battery case, just tried using it with regular battery and it fits pretty well - minimal amount of slide - so I am now happy to use whichever battery I feel like day-by-day and use the same case.

Just bought a GPS receiver and went shopping for a car cradle. The bulge of the extended battery is a MAJOR problem - the cradle holders don't generally have deep/long enough arms, so the Dell is helkd pretty precariously. It survived a 150mile drive, but don't feel very happy. If you are planing to use Dell for GPS, then either get a car charger that will charge when the unit is on, or consider getting multiple regular batteries rather than an extended one, and make sure you but the cradle in person, or can return it if not happy. I tried 3 shops in London before buying the one I have (and tha's a compromise, not ideal).

Hope this helps.

One thing the review did not mention was charge time. I assume that it would take longer to charge the 2200 mAh battery as oppose to the 1100 mAh but how much longer? Those who have one, please post.

I didn't take the charging time, sorry. It is about doubled, but can't be more precise.
Ciao, Gianni.
