Not all card readers are created equal

Bought my 50v just about a month ago. I am into movies so I loaded Fariuse and Betaplayer and ripped some movies. Getting them from the computer to the axim just seemed to take too long. My first try was to load them directly into the axim - that was slow. Then I tried the reader built into my printer. It is a reader right? - but it was also slow. Then I bought a GE reader (usb 2.0) from Target and once again it was slow! - plus it would drop off the the connection to the computer mid way through. Finally, once again at Target I found a Lexar card reader (usb 2.0). I just now loaded a movie to my 1 gig Lexar SD in under 60 seconds! Wow, what a difference - from 60 minutes to 60 seconds.

Now this is probably very basic information to most of you, but for any who don't know what a good reader can do - there you go.

If you are comparing USB 1.1 and 2.0 readers, then there will definitely be a difference. Your system also needs to have USB2.0 to take advantage of the increased speeds.

What size of file was it? Just for comparison perposes. I also find that the computer load (how much it is doing) also has a great effect on speed to reader.

The 60 second file was 210mb. Other movies that I have downloaded have been as much as 600mb but the average is about 300mb. The printer reader may have been 1.1 I don't know. The GE was 2.0 but it may have been defective. In any case I am very pleased with my Lexar reader I am using now.
