Question Waterproof Case for x50v

I bought my wife an x50v recently and one of the more popular uses of it is to read eBooks. The problem is that she like to read books while relaxing in the bathtub. It just about drives me nuts to see her holding a $500 PPC while in the tub. I can just see a quick slip and ... ploop, no more x50v.

Does anyone know of a relatively inexpensive waterproof case to put this in. I have looked at the OtterBoxes, but they are really overkill. I would prefer something that is easy to remove so that she would only need to have it on when in the tub.

TIA

Steven

Get a waterproof bag of sorts. You can get ones like ziploc bags which would keep anything you put in them free of water. If you want something actually made for the ppc though id go with an otterbox.

There's one called an Aquapac that's noit so expensive and not as risky as a ziploc bag which will work but If your seals not correct.

I once had a programmable scientific calculator that I used on board our sailboat. I made my own custom fit water resistant case with a freezer weight ZipLock bag. It looked very nice considering the cost and I still had full functionality of the display and buttons.

I placed the calculator inside the ZipLock, got all the air out and sealed it shut. I shoved the calculator up into the corner of the bag next to the zipper edge. Then I took a metal straight edge and slid it up against one edge of the calculator, but not so tight that it would be too tight of a fit. I then took a hot soldering iron and slid it along the outside metal edge (away from the calculator) cutting and sealing the ZipLock as I slid it along. I repeated this process for the bottom edge.

When I was done I had a custom fit water resistant bag for my calculator. The bonus was the calculator would float if dropped overboard. I'm not sure if an Axim would float due to its weight compared to the amount of water displaced.

Go to www.otterbox.com . They have excellent cases for this purpose. I have one myself, and it works quite well.

You could also try camping/bushwalking stores. The sell relatively inexpensive bags for keeping maps dry. Really dry. These bags are little more than a thicker-walled zip lock bag but the closure usually folds over a few times.

I use mine in the tub all the time. Just take a good ziploc baggie (1 Quart freezer type). Put the ax in one of the bottom corners. Suck the air out of it. You can tape the seal if you want but I have had no problems with it. Then fold the edge with the zipper in a few times till it is flush with the opposite side of the back of the ax. I then run a piece of medical waterproof tape to hold it down and presto. I never had problems with them leaking when I was in the army and haven't had any now. It's cheap and I haven't even got condensation on the inside. Hope this helps

** Edited ** Oh Yeah, Don't forget to take the stylus out before you do this unless you have a spare for the tub.** :approve:

Thanks. I think I am going to get one of the $25 AquaPacs. It looks like it is built well. In the meantime I am going to try the freezer bag. I did a dry (literally) run this evening and it is quite useable and the screen is hardly distorted at all.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I had an AquaPac for an old cell phone of mine, for when we were on the boat. It worked like a champ. Good product.
