Its here! this isnt just a hello thread. (i have one little question)

Heres a picture to make you happy first!

(edit: Cant get the picture up at the mo. to big for image shack. ill do it later)

Ok i ordered mine form america and basically i want to know where i can get a UK end to come out of the power brick (preferably a dell one)

At the moment im using a travel kit i bought from ebay that uses a cable that runs form the dell to a usb end that plugs into a wall socket.

is this alright for the initial charge. cos i think i might of heard it should be in the cradle?

The annoying thing is i was gonna install the softwere and sync it with my laptop but family took it to work. so i have only got a mac with me and ill have to weight for them to get home.

Its been a hard 2 weeks weighting but i got through it. :approve:

How long has it been on charge? If 8hrs, yes; if you've only just put it in the cradle, no. Dell recommends an 8hr charge.

If its any help, I have a US MSoft router thats been rewired to a UK plug, and it works fine.

it had been charging about an hour.

i have now taking it of the travel charger and plugged it into the cradle

with the my laptop thing attached to the dell axim brick.

i think it might of said low internal battery because may be the travel kit is only a charger so it dosent power it when im using it.

As long as we are talking about the lead... Which has a uk 3 pin plug at one end... and plugs into the Dell AC adapter (100-240V) then the answer is yes.

NO! your laptop transformer probably will not work to charge your Axim. In fact might even fry it.

What you need is an Axim transformer (5V/2400MaH) + a standard cord that you can get at Radio Shack or even Walmart (or equivalent).

This shows the end that plugs into the "wart", the other end that plugs into the wall will vary by country/voltage.

The Axim wart will transform either 220V or 110V.

Just take your "cord wart" with you, because there are three different adapter ends (the wall end is standard two prong US - though in Europe I'm sure they're "EuroStylin'"). If the end you need isn't in stock a little slice&dice with an exacto knife can get another to fit.

You might even have one laying around somewhere in a box or sumthing...if you never throw things away, like me.

ok after that very scary messege^^

i have swithced back to the travel kit i baught.

(its still said internal battery is not charged enough )

the cable i was using was the middle one in your diagram? is that the right one?

well im just gonan leave it on there for now.

its still working so presumably it hasn't been fried.

the light had changed to green which seemed strange after 2 hours charge.

since swapping it back to travel charger its orange agian.

I was sure we were talking about the end lead... Not the Transformer itself... I thought the Dell Transformer was universal and it was the lead to it ("cord wart" what a fantastic word).

I use the "cord wart" that came with my Laptop and swap it between my Dell transformer and my Laptop transformer

and then the cable With the Cord wart :rolling: and wall plug from my laptop to plug into the brick??

Also the lights gone grene afterl ike 2 hours, is this normal?

To date, AXIM transformers are Universal between Axims. But "Dell" transformers are not interchangeable between "Classes" of devices. ie; Axims and LapTops.

I think you misunderstand this. the "wart" part is the transformer, More often than not they are "Wall Warts" because the wart plugs directly into the wall. However the axim uses a "cord wart"....Axim > Permanent Lead > "wart" > Detachable/Interchangeable Lead > Wall Plug.

Here, you are not using the "Cord Wart", rather the Detachable/Interchangeable Lead.

Is what prompted my scary message. It sounded like he was going to use his LapTop's "Wart" to charge his Axim, hence my warning that it could possible fry his Axim.

WOW! Now that we are past all of that..... the green light will come on after a couple of hours and that is normal. the book says to continue the first charge for a total of 8 hours. Also, to start the backup battery charging it requires that you turn on then turn off the pda once. That should take care of it. If after the 8 hour charge it still shows low you may have a bad one and the unit will have to be replaced but I don't recall seeing anyone with that problem yet here. (unless I missed it)
