TO BT keyboard + TO BT mouse + x50v = a pretty good laptop "alternative"
I apologize for the redundant post, but I had to just rave one more time about the ThinkOutside bluetooth keyboard and mouse. I am sitting here in my home office, typing this post on my x50v, using the keyboard and mouse. Earlier this evening, I spent some time typing out some work schedules in Pocket Excel. I can't believe how capable this setup is! When you combine the mouse/keyboard combination with the speed, the wireless capabilities and the VGA screen of the Dell, you can really get some serious work done.

Alright...I'm done raving. Thanks for putting up with my brief enthusiastic outburst.

I would second that notion

Using the vga cable as well makes it a whole new experiance! ever tried playing solitaire, or any other game on a 10ft wide projected screen?

I'm absolutely sold on the TO keyboard as well. Okay, I bought a Dell one 'cos they were really cheap when bundled with the PDA, at least on the Dell site in Oz. But I replaced the crap Dell driver with the TO one.

How do you guys find you are mostly using the mouse? Are you always grabbing for it, like with a PC? Or it's just "sorta nice to have" and the keyboard is the real winner in the package

I tend not to use the mouse to much on a PC, to used to using keyboard shortcuts (a throwback from my PC building days when there was never any space to use a mouse - 20PC's in a line being installed and tested), and it's a hell of a lot faster than using a mouse But i use the mouse a lot on the PPC, and now i've got the keyboard (also a dell model with TO drivers becuase it was a lot cheaper in the UK) i loathe using eh on screen keyboard
The keyboard and mouse are quick enough to turn on and conect to make the stylus redundant for all except basic stuff and games

Horrah for BT! (just a shame broadcom havn't sorted out thier stack yet for the A2DP profile so i can use the BT stereo headohones to )

In my opinion, when I break out the KB I need the mouse. It is so annoying to have to stop typing, pick up the stylus, and tap the screen. As you said, I"m used to using the mouse with the PC and it is a "must" with the ppc and KB too!

Hmmm... interesting. Thanks.

Now, I wonder where I can get a fairly-priced TO BT mouse in Oz...

I tend to use the keyboard more than the mouse. The mouse is great if I am doing some work on a big table top and have room to set everything up. However, there are times that I have my Axim set up on a small table, and have the keyboard sitting on my lap. In those cases, it IS quicker to just use the stylus.

I checked out the web site, the mouse was $80 and the keyboard $150. That's alot of money.

You can usually get them much cheaper. I bought my mouse for $45 and my KB for $89.

EDIT: Just did a Pricegrabber search and the mouse can be had for about $50 and the KB for about $100 at a variety of places. I suspect you can do even better at times.

Amazon has the mouse for about $45 shipped. I really prefer using the mouse rather than the stylus when using my keyboard; I never really appreciated the keyboard fully until I purchased the mouse, having to stop and pick up the stylus to tap the screen is so slow!

I'm with you socpsy, when I use the keyboard, the mouse comes out as well. It's just too goofy trying to tap on the screen with the stylus when you've got the keyboard out. And this latest version of both the Think Outside driver and A03 works very, very well.

Now if Pocket Word were a more useful package...yep...I know about the alternatives, but I'd prefer just to deal with Word, since it's the industry standard. They say 2005 will have a better Pocket Word. Let's hope so.

I've got nearly 200 arms waiting to use every one of those X5s. My students check them out to practice music at home, and we also use them for sectionals at school. It's pretty awesome technology, considering that the X5 can nearly do anything my X50v can do. Sure, it's not as fast or as pretty...but they are work horses! (Only one of the X5s above is a 300 MHz, but they all operate pretty much the same)
