Wireless Audio Output?
I recently purchased an x50v and love it. I just upgraded to the M03 ROM last night. I have many uses for my Axim, but one thing I want to use it for is a wireless audio controller.

I have a Media Server with a 200Gig Hard drive filled with MP3s of every CD I own (over 800 CDs). The Media Server is wired into my network and all my PCs and Xbox can play songs off it.

I have my Axim setup with wireless to connect to my Media Server share to play the MP3s.

Everything works fine, I can listen to them through the internal speaker or headphones.

What I want to do is have something connected to an Auxillary input of my garage receiver that will play the audio from my Axim. I want to be able to walk around the yard with my Axim in my pocket and have it send its audio signal to the receiver out there.

Is this even possible? Is there some Bluetooth device or something that will take the audio signal from the Axim (sorta like Bluetooth headphones) but has an RCA output on it?

Maybe Im living in a pipe dream, but I just thought I would ask. As of now, I just have a cable running from the headphone jack of my Axim to the input on my receiver and it works fine, but I wanted to make that wireless too. Thanks for any input anyone has.

Do you have wireless LAN?

Right now I have all of my music ripped to a Mac in my study upstairs. I have a streaming audio server on that. Downstairs I have a PC connected into my stereo which acts as a streaming client and can take my audio feed from my Mac and pump it into my stereo. The connection between the Server (Mac) and Client (PC) is wireless LAN.

In addition - my iPAQ 4150 can also stream direct from the server. So from the back yard I can listen to my music, again over wireless LAN.

If I had a stereo in the back yard I could then connect the headphone socket of the iPAQ (which is an audio out) to the audio in on the stereo down there.

So if I'm understanding what you need to do, yes, it's very possible. Wireless LAN is probably a cheaper and better solution that BT for what you want to do.

wait - I think I might have misunderstood.. you want mobility with the Axim too. BT is only short range (<10m typically) so I would rule that out.

You can't stream effectively FROM the Axim either. There is a BT headphone service that you might be able to play around with but again with the range limitations maybe it's not a good option.

If you have an old deskop you can just place that in your garage (doesn't need a KB, mouse, monitor) and use that to connect to your stereo. Or you could probably build one for $150.

Yeah, see I dont have a computer in the garage. I tried that once, and it gets so hot and humid out there, it fried the processor despite all my attempts at keeping it cool.

Right now, I am going to just keep the Axim near the stereo connected via a cable through the headphone jack.

Its just I have a lot of outdoor parties, bonfires, plus working on the car, and I thought it would be cool to be able to change the songs on the fly without having to get up and walk back in the garage to change it.

I kinda thought it wasn't possible, but just thought I would ask!

This is probably reaching - but what about something like the Apple Airport iTunes enabled base station? If you're using iTunes to manage your music that could be worth looking at.

Although the Apple haters will tell you otherwise, iTunes can be used to manage MP3. You'd just buy one of these and plug it into the wall socket near the stereo. Again - assumes you have wifi.

I don't know enough about it to say 100% that it would work, but it might be worthwhile taking some time to look at.

You would use that to stream your music from iTunes and you can use your Axim to control iTunes.

Actually, you aren't the only one looking for something like that. The Device I am looking for is exactly the same thing you are looking for but I have a slightly different use.

My Clarion Car Stereo has RCA inputs in it for an Auxillary Input and I'd love to be able to send my MP3's Wirelessly to my Stereo. I would think someone out there would have created a device to do so since it is nothing more than a pair of Bluetooth Headphones with RCA Jacks instead of Earpieces.

Something like that would give you the Flexibility at home too. Very few people have a stereo on their desk but they keep their Handheld right there. Hook up a "bluetooth Media Reciever" (for lack of a better Term) and now you can broadcast your MP3's to your stereo and control them from your handheld. Instead of having a "music Streamer" in every room for $120+, have an uplink to a "Bluetooth media Reciever" right into the Stereo that's already there for half the cost or less. Bluetooth Headsets are already in the $60 range and they require speaker(s), a battery and charging mechanism instead of a $5 AC/DC Adapter. Imagine also if the PSP or the Next Gen Nintendo system (or a Portable Xbox) had Bluetooth built in, you could walk into a room and have your 1000-watt stereo pick up your PSP/XB-Portable.

Imagine the possibilities... All for around $60 or less (guesstimate)

Has anyone seen this part or Built one from a Headset they tore apart?

There is a serious drop in sound quality and they often don't work well in more Metropolitan Areas such as New York (where every number on the dial is used)
I grew up in NJ and they dont work well at all. That plus I don't want to have to plug anything in. (www.bluetake.com makes something like that that actually uses bluetooth but it requires a connection at either end. I'm looking into the Reciever only unit to see if it is universal Bluetooth Capable or if it is proprietary to the System) Plus Most Phones don't have a standard 1/8" jack, they have a Smaller one and that would require a converter.

ok this might sound redundent but has someone tried pairing their bluetooth PDA with bluetooth systems in high-end cars/SUV's. I would like to know if I get that option in a car, will I be able to play my MP3's using the cars speakers?

After reading what you want, the best option I can think of is this: Hook the stereo up directly to your media server. Run the speaker cables to the garage so that the media server is playing the music through the speakers. Then use the LAN and the Terminal services program that comes installed on the Axim to directly control the media server. You could probably find a Winamp plugin or something that will allow you to control the music without having to log into your media server with the Terminal services. Speaker cable can be run pretty cheaply too, and that would keep the electronics out of the garage.

Actually, I had posed a different (but related) question on this old thread. I think the original poster recieved a bunch of ideas for the setup he wanted. I wasent sure if it was prudent to start a new thread or just pose my question on a related one. I opted for the second option.

One of the SUV's I am looking to get has an option for bluetooth. What I wanted to know is if I could pair a x50v to the bluetooth in the car and listen to MP3s on the PDA using the cars speakers?

I will appreciate any input...

Thanks,

K

Well what does bluetooth on the SUV do? Does it have a GPS unit hooked into it? Cell Phone speaker system? Audio? That would be a question for the car dealer. It depends on what the SUV has hooked into the bluetooth, and if it needs special drivers, etc. The axim should be able to do it if it's all fairly standard.

Here is one option, RemoteAmp 2.0 lets you remote control you winamp over WI FI, you won't be having mp3's on your PDA rather on your PC and controlling it with this program, here is a link:RemoteAmp 2.0
The Wireless-B Music System does what you need, you can plug this radio to your actual receiver via fiber optic cable or regular RCA, your choice, it has a remote and the radio will let you browse you mp3 off you HD's via WI FI, here is the link:
Wireless-B Music System

I am suprised you fried a PC in a garage. I currently have an old 233MHz PC assembled in a plastic file box that has been running in my greenhouse for the last year, it logs temperatures and runs a web cam. Today it logged 64.5'C (about 148F) so hate to think what the temperature was in the box.

Maybe you where just unlucky, an old PC is probably the cheapest and most reliable option.

Other option may be a video sender/receiver, but just use the stereo audio connections, control your PC from the axim. I use Winamp with a web server plugin, can be operated from any PC or PDA without installing software.
