Hitachi 6GB CF/Microdrive $225
Can't resist!

Just placed an order for 6GB/CF/Microdrive: Great promo deal: $225 at Dell including S&H, Tax is applicable.
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...s=04&c=us&l=en

The regular link at Dell shows $265

The review and specs shows in addition to generous capacity, great improvement in power consumption as well as performance

Anyone interested in an almost new 2GB CF SanDisk? PM me!

This a quick review from a board member:
...OK, as promised. Here is a quick review . I got the 6 gb CF drive from Dell. It was the blister pack without the pcmcia adaptor. Taking it out of its package is no problem. First thing I did was to get a 1 inch piece of clear tape and apply it to the front and back of the drive. I left enough to squeeze a bit on top leaving enough to grab onto so I could remove the drive from my Axim. Popped it in. Drive already formatted to Fat32. After removing it and placing it in my usb reader, I loaded it with audio and video files. Testing with betaplayer showed file playback at 130 % with no skip frames. That my test file at 600kbit save rate. Audio with Pocketmusic was smooth. Shuttle play was fast. I didn't noticed any difference from my SD cards. The drive is also very quiet. I couldn't hear it spinning, unlike my magicstor drive. Overall I'm extremely happy with this purchase. I had hoped to write a longer review, but its Sunday and I'm using my Axim to write this. I haven't played a two hour movie yet to read battery usage at the end. I plan to start at 100 and see where I end up. Very nice drive indeed .

Power Characteristics (+3.3V power supply)
Voltage requirement (auto-detect): +3.3VDC, ± 5%
Current (write): 305 mA
Current (standby): 16 mA
Power consumption efficiency: 0.055 (watts/GB at idle)
Power Characteristics (+5V power supply)
Voltage requirement (auto-detect): +5VDC, ±5%
Current (write): 314 mA
Current (standby): 18 mA
Power consumption efficiency: 0.090 (watts/GB at idle)

Could you run pocket mechanic on that new drive and tell us what you get for read and write transfer rates. My Toshiba 4GB is a bit on the slower side just curious what their new 6GB will do. That sound like a very good deal compared to what I've been seeing. Sometimes you just can't beat the deals you get at Dell. I picked up a Pharos Bluetooth docking unit there for $84.00 shipped.

My 6GB Card came today. It came in one of those impeneterable plastic casing. The file format it was shipped in was RAW so the first thing I did was format it to Fat32. My IBM laptop reports 5.71GB of usable space. I'm copying some music and a movie to it and will let you know how it works with my X50v a little later tonight.

Just ordered mine. Not as cheap for me since I have to pay sales tax here in TX, but a good deal none the less. Thanks for the post!

You might be able to get an additional $20 off by using this Dell coupon: 7C45$XQ4TDTW3$

It expires 6/7/2005 and is probably good in the U.S. only. Courtesy of Slickdeals.

It won't allow me to apply that code to the memory card.

Never mind. The coupon code is for Dell Small Business and the special price on the microdrive is for Dell Home. I checked Dell Small Business and the price for the Microdrive is the original $264, so $20 off is not a better deal. Sorry.
