Use whatever mfg. you want to use but use it. To those who won't: Would you drive without your seatbelt on? The little inconvience of a protector sure beats buying a new screen!
I think I will keep on using one just for the peace of mine if not for anything else. I have been using the boxwave crystal and I feel it has really been worth it. you just never know.
dont screen protectors make the screen look messy? also isn't it hard to get a good fit on it so u cant notice it?, if so plz post pics so i can see how they look on a axim

I've alwasy wanted to get a Screen protector but bever got one because of the cost. I've had my Axim X50v for about 7 months and some days now and no scratches. I think the bare screen on the Axim was designed to resist wear and tear as long as you use the stylus that came with it.
If I bought a generic stylus, I won't take the risk... I'll buy a screen protector along with it.
I agree with mingkee. Screen protector is significant for your screen. If You use PDA without Screen protector, it will become scrached and not good-looking. Moreover, it will be very hard to restore it. I highly recommend using Screen protectors.

I've had my X50 for about a year-and-a-half now. The case I bought for it (the Belkin - book style) was getting a bit beat up and letting the bottom of the Ax get a bit dinged up as well. I also noticed that I was getting just a slight bit of "scritching" on the screen using only the stylus. Really minor - but I figured I'd like this box to last another year or two so I bought a new case and decided to try the Boxwave anti-glare. The Boxwave was a bit expensive ($11 for one) and it took several passes to get it on there right - but I do think the screen response is slightly better with it on there. I also don't have to worry about accidentally dragging a scratch across the thing anymore.
Sometimes I think we make too big a deal about all this - but at the same time I think the screen protector (and good case) lets me just use the device without "micromanaging" it - if you know what I mean. I don't feel like I have to have my microfiber cloth around all the time to keep the stinkin' thing clean - I can just use the box like it's intended. Yeah, it will eventually wear out - but $11 is cheap insurance to make it last a couple years.
tblove converted me into a believer - hallelujah! Of course that was afelati scratched by ipod screen. My x50v wears protection always. It's cheaper than the alternative.
Belkin is POS!!!!!
just after 3-4 weeks of use, it left a hole on the bottom of scrolling bar!!!!!
also, it's pretty hard to remove, and leaves some leftover
Fellowes is okay, but I have to waste 4-5 to get success
Boxwave is also pain in my a**, not easy to apply, and get badly scratched after 3 months of use
currently I use Brando, satisfied so far, the hardest part is aligning (it's big), but once correctly aligned, I go downhill, the bubble is got rid easily, and easily to get removed with scotch tape to touch up the dust with another tape, used for almost a month (tap with my fingernail), it don't yet leave any track, even where my fingernail touches the most (the bottom of scrolling bar), highly recommended
I also have Armkit on my phones, the phones leaves some minor scratches (I don't use any case on my 6270, and I mainly put it in my pocket

I have the opposite situation. I decided to go with a screen protector even though I've never bothered before and always thought it was being overcautious. Am I glad I did because I now have two side-by-side abrasions on the screen protector--no idea where they came from because I'm extremely careful--that would be on the screen itself otherwise. As far as I'm concerned, that screen protector's never coming off, except to be replaced.
But the reason you are seeing those scratches is not because you have miraculously protected your screen from the same fate. It is because screen protectors are extremely thin and the hardness factor is way below that of the PDA screen, hence it scratches way more easily.
I have yet to find a protector that doesn't need changing very frequently and even when put on properly and with little or no dust underneath (almost impossible unless you hire a CD assembly factory which is dust-free!) they look half decent for all of two days before the level of scratches makes it worse.
I used my X5 without a protector for a couple of years and it was as clear and scratch-free as the day i bought it and sold it to someone who was delighted with the condition. Two things that help:
Never use cheap stylus replacements made of moulded plastic: they are too hard and scratch the screen much worse than a quality stylus (not necessarily a genuine dell one but they are good though expensive)
Use your finger to touch buttons on the screen rather than the stylus and keep that just for writing etc. This will never scratch the screen and works absolutely fine for almost everything in my experience.
The third thing (of two!) is not to be heavy-handed with the stylus, there is no need. If the screen does not detect a normal tough, it will not make it better by thumping it hard with the stylus! Treat it gently and with or without a screen protector the modern PDAs will last for years

To be honest, the only part of the screen I wish I'd had a protector on is the upper right corner where the "close" button is! That's the part that shows the most wear!
I have an X50 and I obsessively played some games on it when I first got it (and still do) and after a month or so noticed many dots (actually circles) in certain parts of the screen.
I'm trying to decide whether to get a screen protector now (is it like locking the barn door after the cows have been stolen)?
My question is this: I've only ever used the official Dell stylus that came with the X50. NOTHING in the manual tells you that you would need a screen protector or that they even exist. If they sell you something that scratches easily when used according to their instructions, aren't they really selling you a defective product or a badly designed product or a product that violates the implied "warranty of merchantability" or "warranty of suitability for a particular purpose?
